    Ive looked at some of these and found horror stories of the obd2 socket melting if used continuously with the Bluetooth transmitters. Make sure you do your research. It put me off and I'm looking to a scan have instead

      three guesses who forgot to search before posting...apologies guys feel free to delete this thread
      2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

        I've heard some bad thinout the cheap ELM units and other cheapies from ebay.

        I've gone with one from Scantool in the US as it turns itself off, so over heating is not an issue.

          early days with scantool obdlink and torque app, but for those looking for transmission temps you need to add a custom pid. Seems also that PID codes changed about 2008 and you need a different pid code from 2008 on

          I think this one is transmission oil pan and the second is torque converter atf temps (or vice versa) for pre-2008:
          PID: 21D9
          Long Name: Trans Fluid Temp 1 (or whatever you want to call it)
          Short Name: TFT1
          Max/Min: 220/-40
          Unit: degC
          Equation: (((E*256)+F)/256)-40

          21D9
          Trans Fluid Temp 2
          TFT2
          220/-40
          degC
          (((G*256)+H)/256)-40

          I've also found this one, but not tested yet. I'm not sure it's right for pre-2008 vehicles.

          Also discovered that the range does actually matter for some error codes. For example, if the gauge fails for some reason some default to specific values (eg. -40degC or 220degC). But you can always change the display on Torque so it is right for the working range.

          Any one found any more useful pids?

              You might want to change your temp range to -40 as when the temp gauge fails, the error value it returns is -40. So if you get that you know you've got a problem.

              The formulas are different interpretations of how to convert the signal into the correct temp reading. I've been trying to confirm which one is "correct" but to no luck. Toyota will probably operate using degC so I went with the simpler formula as your formula is converting to farenheit and then converting back to degC. But have no idea which is correct

                Engine oil temp doesn't work for me (2004), might on a post 2008 model

                  With the elm bluetooth unit and torque app can anyone confirm if you are able to get injector readings, egr, map etc or just basic reads
                  09/08 Prado GX D4D White, Auto, Option Pack 1, Soveriegn Bull Bar, 2" Ironman lift, Ironman snorkel, catch can gone EGR blank with 6mm hole installed

                    Dragging up an oldish thread, but I've just purchased one of these Bluetooth OBDII devices and am using the Torque Pro app. I can confirm these codes work with my 2008 D4D Prado.

                    Also have had no sign of the unit getting warm at all when plugged in... I tried the Torque Free app, but couldn't get any custom PID codes to work.. Definitely was worth spending $5 for the Pro version.

                      For anyone still looking, there is also an iPhone app called EngineLink that also allows Custom PID codes. Its about $7. It isnt as flashy as most of the others but I've tried it and it seems to work for Transmission Temp using the above codes.
