      • Easy to install a line from the drain on the bottom, to a small ball valve zip tied to the chassis under the drivers seat. Then all i do is put a bottle over the tube and turn the ball valve to drain. Leave for 1/2 hour close the valve. This is great as you can see how much oil is collected. Of course i never drain straight to the ground, that would be pollution. (couldn't lie straight in bed).

        • Considering the Provent or HPD catch cans. There is a fair bit of info... Just have to save some coins, after spending too much lately.

          • I have installed in my late 2014 facelift a genuine Provent 200 from www.westernfilters.net.au at 4000km.

When removing the factory return pipes to the rocker cover I did notice a light oily film inside the pipe which suggest to me oily blow-by was returning.

When I did the install I removed the small metal pipe and plumbed the new rubber pipe direct to the case from the Provent.

So far I have done 9000km with 2000km of this towing a 4mt boat on the HWY. Till date I have yet to see one drop of oil at the bottom of my valve. I do however have condensation down there.

My driving style is very light footed on the roads and the boost is stock which all seems to merry up correctly.

            • Good to hear.

I have been seriously looking at the Western Filters Provent 200 this morning.

Where does the filter mount, as I am running an aux battery behind the RHS headlight.

              Thanks

              • I had to make up a aluminium bracket that sits in the top left in the engine bay (driver side).

                    • Does anyone have any specific recommendations re the Provent vs the HPD? I've read a comment that without a filter (HPD), the catch can is less likely to successfully "catch" any oil in aerosol/vapour form. Any comments? Thanks.

                      • I've never really understood why some catch cans have no filter. In one hole, swirled around a little, then out another hole - it's just an extension of the PCV pipe, albeit providing more surface area for oil to stick onto. They don't even do the 'cyclonic' thing vacuums do.
Surface area is what will catch the oil, to collect and condense the oil, hence people put firm steel wool into those empty catch cans to make it work more efficently. Well designed catch cans will have numerous internal baffles, screens or filters to scrub the oil out of the air and condense it. Most rocker covers use baffles to condense some oil mist before it heads out to the turbo intake.
I've tried the cheaper brands, and I'm sticking to Provent until a better catch can is found.

but that's just me. Others will vouch for what they are using right now.

                        • So, I'm going to go with the Provent. Do any of the guru fabricators/manufacturers on PP make a nice bracket for the Provent to go in a 150?
Western Filters charges a fair whack for their bracket (comes in a kit) - they say it's stainless but looks awfully like galvanised to me?

Does anyone want to make me a nice one that I can throw some dollars at?

                          • Bought one of these recently for my 2014 GXL. I can assure you that the bracket I received is stainless, although the one in the link above does look like a gal one. The bracket sits behind the air box on two Toyota bolt points. Stainless nyloc nuts provided in the kit. The only issue I had was one of the hoses was a bit short but a brass joiner solved the issue.

                            • Hi All,

After doing a 650km non-stop why drive I went to check my clear tube after the drive and found about 20mls of off coloured fluid that looked like water and smelt like fumes. Very much like this post http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post363053

                              And the photo
                              http://s1198.photobucket.com/user/sm...atch2.jpg.html

I opened the provent 200 and found a some amount of oil residue in the top section of the can, just a very light film. This initially got me worried so I called the guys at westernfilters and told them what was happening. They said to me that I have my connections on the wrong way which to me after seeing many install pics etc doesn't sound right.

So before I go and buy a new $75 filter and switch my connection I want to clarify what others have done.
                              - Remove tube (90d bend) from rocker cover to crankcase
                              - Top connection of the provent goes into the rocker cover
                              - Bottom connection of the provent goes into the crackcase

                              Thanks

                              • Lower connection goes to turbo.

Some condensation may get in the drain but I wouldn't expect
to see a lot, any possibility the head gasket maybe be faulty or
alternatively you don't normally do a lot of short duration trips that
has allowed moister to build up in the sump?
