10000km service today at CMI Cheltenham. When I booked in 2 weeks ago, told Service Mgr that I thought I had clunk in tail shaft. Checked Pradopoint & confirmed that it is an issue in 150 model. Guy said he hadn't heard about it but checked Toyota bulletin straight away for me. Yep, sure enough, Toyota have issued a bulletin saying there is a problem but only to change the tail shaft if the customer complains. Service Mgr said, "you're complaining aren't you?"...yep sure enough new tail shaft installed today. There you go fellow Pradopointers, over to you if you want a new tail shaft.

I've had the shaft replaced on my 120 with the "new shaft" and it made no difference at all.

That's a first, erveryone I know of has never had a problem after the shaft was replaced. How sure are you that you got a true "revised" shaft? Check the splines as they coated with a special material and will not appear to be silver from what I understand. More like a non-stick fry pan type look I believe.

Just had my 1K service last week, was all good. But have felt the bump 3 times today. Will be calling Toyota in the morning so they can have a new shaft ready at next service

My service manager told me the new 150's have a tailshaft that's machined to finer tolerances and will not have the problem. He said all new 150's have these. I don't know when the change happened nor if this is correct but I trust him.

I am on my second 150 GXL , the first one developed a clunk and when mentioned at the 10000km service got a bit of a grease job and it disappeared. My current one was bought in June and has just started clunking, I have got 6500km on it and I will mention it at the 10000km service.

Had my 30k service today and reported that I was still getting the clunk (has been greased at 10k and 20k). New shaft has been ordered from Sydney and will be fitted under warranty on next Friday.

Old mate at work got an Altitude 150 earlier this year. It has about 17,000 k's on it and has just started the clunk. I guess Toyota still has a pile of the old shafts to unload?
                    Cheers,

                    • Is this a "squeeky wheel" thing, I don't know. We have an August 2011 model which means it was manufactured some period before this time and have just over 30,000K on it and no problems with the "klunk"....

                          • I think the story of a "new improved" shaft fitted at the factory is not true. The only shaft that fixes the problem is one with coated splines. I was told that given time the oriinal shaft will "where in" and the problem dissappears.....no thanks I took the new shaft.

                            • I had a 2003 120 from new and put up with the occasional 'nudge' from the propshaft (tail shift?) - my 3 year old (2009) 150 also had the 'nudge' - but a little more often than my old 120. Still - I was prepared to 'put up' - but today following a tractor up a bit of a hill and accelerating/decelerating accordingly there was an almighty clunk that startled me and the missus 'WTF was that' she said (more like 'bloody hell - what was that'. Well known carried over fault from the old model I said - nothing to worry about.

I'm now not so sure ....especially as the 3yr warranty expires in a few days. I've taken out an extended 'Toyota' warranty for another two years - because I do not 'trust' this motor - either its 'injection issues' or this propshaft clunk. The car goes in for its MOT and I've asked for the front pads to be changed (60% worn at last service in May) and for the headlights to be lowered. Be interesting to see what reaction I get .... they didn't know how to lower the headlights - but reckon they have looked it up and can see how. I've printed out all the gubbins re this from this site for this so hopefully they will be able to do it! - but I'm not holding my breath.

There are very few 150s on the road here in the UK - most seem to go for the Disco... despite its unreliability record....? - go figure?

                              • dannyson, I have experienced that clunk as well. Different issue IMO, I reckon its 'clunking' back to first gear from second under load up an incline at very slow speed. I think this is a characteristic of the trani.

re headlights, don't you have headlight adjustment in the cabin? Its a small thumb wheel on the right handside of the dash (bottom right corner).
