Surely the 150 has the 'new' spline design that was retrofitted to some 120's so what the hell is going on???????????????????My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Just one for the record... I haven't experienced any tailshaft clunk on my 150 since delivery in Nov 2010. Touch wood! Sorry to hear you fellas are having issues. Especially Hutch with his month old new rig! Hope it works out for you.William

Had my 150 auto petrol since March, 2010, and have not noticed any tail shaft clunk so far.
With the 80 series cruiser (1993 model) the tail shaft clunk was there from early on until I sold it in 2010. Had the shaft replaced after 2000, the noise stayed away for a couple of years but came back again.
Was told by a few old mechanics that is the problem with constant 4wd, not all vehicles but quite a few.

I was told that the new shaft has a 'diamond' coating on the splines. Apparently the redesigned shaft is not as tight tolerance wise and the coating is done so the shaft does not prematurely ware due to the lower tolerance. The process of coating the splines is also apparently very expensive thus not used in normal production shafts.2010 150 Glacier White GXL D4D Auto

Correct; it has a DLC: diamond like coating, to prevent wear.2011 150series GXL

use to use that stuff bak in 88 to 92 when i worked 4 toyota on the 80 series cruisers and my mate was still using it untill 5 years ago when he stoped workn for them. That was a common TEMPORARY FIX use 2 pull the shaft apart clean it totally then apply that 2 the splines put back 2 gether n all was good FOR A WHILE then it would come back again after a while, then the prados started it as well lol some things toyota just dont get right ....cheers steveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Hi guys .I have a pit and I am pumping high temp grease into the unis every5K .Since I have been doing this I haven't had the clunk but I certainly had it before .Reading the posts here tells me I'm not alone and I should be approaching my dealer for a fix .I'm coming up to 40K service in June so I'll chase it up,I must admit I don't want to be doing this for the rest of the girls life Cheers Foxy49

Hi all , just knocked up 65,000k and have eventually had my shaft changed under warranty. It was ordered in oct 2011 but due to the Tsunami in Japan and floods in Thailand they said it was hard to get parts. The dealer kept greasing it up but it was only good for about 5000k . You have to keep on there backs to ensure you get it changed.2010 Graphite D4D GXL, Tracklander tent top roof rack, BFG's, factory tow bar, Black Widow 900 draws with fridge slide, Black Widow Half Barrier with top shelf centre barrier combo, ARB Deluxe Winch Bull Bar (no colour coding), Tabor 9000 winch with Dyneema Rope, Complete Dobinson suspension upgrade and 2'' lift, Dual Battery System, Upgrade wiring to rear fridge plug, ARB On-Board Compressor, Hannibal Classic Tent with Jumbo Fly 1.4M, GME 3440 , HID Lightforce 170's, 2 x 1kg extinguishers.snorkle
