  • Declan's 1997 95 series weekend warrior

Well I figured it was time I joined the fray and scrabble to together a Show Off, oops, I mean Build Up thread.

I bought the Prado in June 2010 when it was bog stock with 125,000 KM on the ODO.

Since photos of my Prado while stock are scarce, the best I could find was this from one of my earliest Pradopoint outings.

Since then I have accumulated a bit of kit for the old girl including:

    - ARB Tow bar (no longer available, I think ARB now just sell Hayman Reese tow bars)
    - Extended front and rear diff breathers
    - 32" Cooper ATR tyres (265/75/R16)
    - Bush ranger Mud Tamer floor mats
    - Colour coded ARB Deluxe Winch bar
    - Ditched the 3rd row seats
    - GME TX3340 UHF radio
    - ARB diff-lock/Tyre inflation air compressor mounted under the passenger seat
    - Rear ARB Air-locker
    - OME suspension lift (HD coils in the front and MD in the rear)
    - 4mm Steel bash plate from Macquarie 4x4
    - Aldi Winch (already recovered 2 vehicles!)
    - 3 mud flaps MIA

And this is how she stands now.

    Possible future mods:
    - Front locker
    - Steel side steps/sliders (considering AJ sliders but I don't like the mounting system. I'm more leaning towards Macquarie 4x4 steps)
    - Safari Snorkel
    - 2nd set of rims with gnarly mud terrains (maybe MT MTZ)
    - Something to protect the transmission and transfer case..... anything!
    - Ditching the sub tank altogether

I'll also in two minds about ditching the Prado in favour of a thirsty petrol GQ Patrol or petrol 80 series LC.

About time Declan, good on ya!

You forgot to mention your current side steps, and I wanna see a nice new pic of them.

Mmmm GQ/80s: 4.2+ petrol pushing 2.2+ tonnes around, you'll love the 22+L/100 km mileage. Did you know GQ's don't have sub tanks?

22L/100km? Is that all. Mine sucks 17L/100km in a good week. I've even measured 21L/100km once.

Sub tanks are over rated for day trippers. All mine is good for is taking damage!

I'll try and get some pics of the newly customised side steps tomorrow.

But fear not. glen_ep has been playing mind games with me and it looks like I'm gonna stuck with the Prado.

                      I see your point but,

I don't think there's anything wrong with having the same vehicle as every one else, especially if its the best there is. Being different isn't always a good thing.

I could be different and get a Daewoo Musso. That would be really unique but still a dumb decision.

In you're case I'd say the previous model SWB. Cheap to buy, modded ones available, and the very limited fuel mileage isn't going to be an issue for day trips. But be warned, the aftermarket upgrades are actually quite expensive. If it were me, I'd have to get the newer and expensive LWB

I keep seeing this beaten up 90 series around Marsfield. I looks about 4"-5" above standard. He's lost nearly all his original flares and has an XROX style bull bar.

I managed to get a closer look at it when it was parked (owner no where in sight) and looks to have at least 2" of body lift. A dodgy body lift at that, without the extended chassis bump stops. But I'm really liking his mud flap setup.

Last weekend, without any rear mud flaps, my rear bumper copped the kind of beating that you see on 150s! Those flexible ones would do the job with being snagged and torn off on every 2nd outing.

Just keep in mind if you change to the dark side there is no equivilant to Pradopoint to support your build up and vehicle. It will be like living in a big city and still be very alone. Pradopoint is a community that makes up for anything that an 80 series or Pootrol has to offer.
