  • Rear middle seat belt stuck

I have a 2004 Prado and the middle seat belt in the second row has pulled out a foot or so and then stuck. It won't go back in or come out any further. I'm up for trying to fix it myself but was wondering if anyone has experience of this?
    Thanks

You are not alone. I have a similar frustration with the rear seat belts when I attach a child car seat. The belt tightens down and then doesn't release any slack as it locks itself and it seems the thing will never ever come out. But with much perseverance and gentle wiggling it eventually releases... The spring/coil/drum is extremely sensitive (?)

Just wondering if you ever managed to sort out your seat belt? I have the same problem and have been unofficially quoted $1000 over the phone from Toyota although they indicate it may be more after I take it in and they give an official quote. The second row, middle seat belt has pulled out just over a foot and won't retract and won't extend, it is stuck in this position. It is not twisted because when I pull on it, it extends about 1cm and then I feel it lock, however it will not retract. Just wondering if you managed to fix it by the suggestion given to you with the persistent wiggling and giggling ? I have been quite persistent but maybe I need to keep at it? Can any one help?

i had the same issue, unbolt the bottom mount bolt and wind it all the way in and then see if it works properly.

I decided to look into it myself.... The middle row of seats in a 2004 prado has no bolts.. You just flip seats down and can also fild/lift them forward. For anyone with prob like mine in the middle seat of the middle row of seats ...fold chair, unzip the cover both sides, remove the foam/carpet stuff sitting loosely on back, and unclip the plastic cover on the middle seatbelt, seat belt exposed... Check it out... Mine was twisted... I simply untwisted and put everything back together... Took me 10mins, no tools, no brains... Saved myself $800+
          Hope this helps

Not quite sure I understand your problem entirely but FYI each back seat is fitted with child belts. The belts are designed to retract in but not propel out once the child system has been activated (this is done by pulling the seat belt out entirely). This ensures baby seats don't come loose. The seat belt should return to normal operation once it's retracted beyond a certain point (which is almost entirely).

Just check nothing is pressing against it from the rear side of the seat. Ours did the same and it turned out that something in the cargo area was pressed against the back of the seat and restricting the seatbelt free movement

Thanks PitchBlakPrado. Had the same problem, found your solution, worked a treat. The most difficult part of it was holding my breath as I pulled the foam out. I was sure I was going to tear it!

thanks so much for your help , your trick worked and in as easy as 10min my seatbelt was working again. After 6 months of waiting i bought an extender to get us through after toyots quoted over $1000. On discovery i found out that the seat belt was twisted inside. easy fix

Thanks mate - just did the same thing. Took me a while to figure out how to get the plastic shrouds off the child seat mount-points to cleanly remove the fabric but eventually got it. The seat belt was folded over itself - untangled it and now the seatbelt winds all the way back. Awesome

Seat belts should be all good, manufactured by Takata. Still feeling it...
