  • Cape York Trip September 2011

Had a great trip up Cape York again this year. Highlights were the OTL, Captain Billy Landing and the 5 Beach Cruise at Sommerset near the Tip. Our team consisted on 3 generations of Prado's (90, 120, 150) and 1 Nissan Pathfinder.

The creeks were very low this year (apart from Nolans) due to the dry season which convinced me to take the other 3 cars through the OTL as it was their first time up there. The only time I got stuck was towing my camper trailer in the creekbed at Coen. I knew lots of people got stuck there but I couldn't resist. It never ceases to amaze me how many people turn around at Palm Creek and decide to take the Development Road North instead. There must have been at least 30 people watching out entry.

I was really happy with the new 150 Diesel as I have previously travelled with my 120 Series Petrol.

Can someone please tell me if these pics are viewable?
    Thanks

Terrific pictures. You should post some more when you have a little more time up your sleeve. People on here can't get enough of looking at fresh Cape York pics. It's amazing what you mentioned about the Palm Creek entry and many others opting to bypass it. I'm going September next year and was going to take my (and carry on the roof) two pre-cut logs 600mm long x 120mm thick to lay down on the track and raise the height of the vehicle on one side if required to ease the sickening feeling of possible rollover a long way from home in heavily cambered spots. I had a feeling I might need to use these once or twice on the trip as a precaution.

Great pic blkd4d. Did you get through Nolans? I was interested until I cam across a dead VX Grande on the turnoff to Nolans after stalling in the brook without a snorkel. I has 2 others cars in my crew without snorkels and they were not keen. The guys who owned the car said while they were there only 17 of 20 cars made it through unassisted.

Question: Does the ford crossing before Nolan's have crocs in it?

When we went through the crossing before nolans it was very clear I would say there were no crocs in it we did walk through it a few times . Mactuna I got stuck in nolans I should of listened to a guy we were talking to who had done it a week earlier . When I got to nolans there was a guy that said he had seen cars get stuck on the right hand side . He went left but got stuck with a trailer . I Went a little to the left and didn't make it . The 76 with a trailer made it a little further. Every car we watched about 7 without trailers made it and they went on both sides and the middle . Would I try again with the trailer yes .

Great pics. What would you do different if u did nolans again? Did u get much water in? I reckon some lockers might just be what the doctor ordered. We ended up doing the northern section of the otl till Sam's creek in the day due to not a single camp site being available at Elliott falls. I've been going up for the last 4 years and this was the first time that it was packed out. We arrived at SAMs creek around 9pm. When we drove back down the others couldn't believe what we drove through in the dark.

I saw your car once somewhere up there but can't remember where. I must get myself a pp stick sometime.
