Hi all, first time post, just wondering if anyone has encountered similar problems. Bought the 4WD 9 months ago 07 gxl, 2" lift 105,000kms, both times light off road in the mud broken a cv shaft. First time clean snapped the RHS middle shaft at the outer cv joint, 2nd time, now the cv has clicking noise on LHS outer turning right on 3/4 to full lock with a bit of freeplay pulling on the middle shaft. RHS has no movement which got replaced about 3000kms??? Does anyone know of any better aftermarket cv's??? Basically I don't have any confidence in the 4WD at all. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Sometimes when a CV is replaced, the other one will start to show signs of wear (like clicking). I don't know why, but it has happened on two of my previous cars. Maybe this is why your left CV is clicking? What exactly were you doing in the mud when the RHS broke?Diesel Prado with various things...

Nothing it shouldn't be able to handle just really easy fire trail stuff as I am new to 4wd driving and still learning, only noticed it when we got back onto the road and took it out of HL it put all it's drive to the broken cv shaft and would not drive. Had to leave it in HL to get home, so not really able to pin point anything in perticular. I'm just frustrated with it, twice in the bush, twice it's broke something... Not to mention the wife not very happy with me as it's her daily driver... I'm hoping once this one is replaced nothing else goes wrong, at least for a little while anyway. Cheers and thanx for the replyLast edited by Benji77; 23-08-2011, 03:52 PM.

Sounds very strange ?? Plenty of 120's which do alot harder stuff then you have described (check out youtube clips and trip clips on here PP and you will see what I mean) Have you had the car since new or are you second owner ?? Maybe had an extremely hard life prior to you having it, might have been ready to go bang. Not saying they dont go cause they do same as front diffs resonably common on the 90's but generally when there copping a fair floggin. Maybe ring ARB or snake racing or some one out of one of the magazine's and see if there is any thing heavy duty been made or in the plans, Personally would just stick two new/replacement shafts in and see how you go, if they brake again just doing what you have described then I reckon you have other issues causing it.....Face lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Yep I know from experience, the Genuine shafts are much stronger and allow greater travel (about 2" at the wheel). They're expensive though so if you're paying around $250 for a shaft then its non-genuine.... Genuine Toyota CV is about $900 ea! Well yes, genuine are the best!
Stronger.
Still works with more travel, about 40mm as has been said, be carefull at that extension it easy for the inner to climb out.
Quality, they last ages if the boots don't get ripped open.
Lots if people use Repco ones and swear by those??????
I can confirm about 40mm less travel, they do start binding.
5 year 100k warranty so if you don't mind changing them, and you don't have crazy travel then they are a very cheap option.
If yours is clicking, it's likely worn? Too much angle? Or if the boot split & previous owner replaced the boot, often the joint is contaminated and will wear out prematurely.
