  • Swap 120 rims for 90 rims??

I have a 2001 TX with the three spoke mag wheels. I have been trying to find a set of steel wheels from the same vehicle so I can have an extra spare for the wagon and three wheels the same for the trailer.
I have recently come across a set of 17” steel wheels from a 120.
I tried the wheel on the rear of the 90, OK, but on the front the tyre rubbed against the top wishbone, indicating a different centre offset to the 90 series 16” rims.
    I would swap the 120 17” rims for a set of 90 16” X7” rims if I could.
I have read about 0 offset, plus & minus offset etc.
Can someone clarify these figures for me. Zero, plus & minus from what. I’ve measured the offset from the rear bolt up face of the rim centre out to the inner rim edge and they are definitely different for the 90 compared to the 120.
I’ve seen mention of a relationship to the appearance compared to the outer guard / flare, doesn’t make much sense as this is more a visual preference and leaves a bit of leeway. The zero, plus & minus must relate to a definite dimension.
Can someone throw some light on this for me?
Anyone want to swap a set of rims? Two have reasonable tyres.
