  • Rear Parking Sensor Installation

    Hi,

I am just about to install an aftermarket rear parking sensor kit to my 120 series Prado. Can any one assist me with the correct spacing I should use between the sensors.

I have a tow bar fitted and it has been recommended to space the two inner sensors wider apart to avoid interference with the bar. Is this an issue with the Prado?

If anyone has a factory fitted kit, knowing the distance between the sensors would be a big help.

Sorry can't help with spacing but maybe it's too late to say this but a reverse camera is more effective without being annoying (no beeping).

If no one replies, maybe find a Prado with reverse sensors at the shopping centre carpark and measure that.

Thanks amts. Will be getting the reversing camera as well. Unfortunately my wife has a special skill for backing into things and need to install every device known to man to minimize future damage.

I would go wider with the outside sensors. Something like 500 x 500 x 500. That way you will pick up things just to the side as well. We have the standard spacing and it is scary how close you can get to the side without any warning.

If they aren't smashing into things they are yapping at 100 miles an hour and distracting you. Someone should blow up women

Thanks for the insight mjrandom. The wider spacing makes sense. I think I will that a go.

couldnt you just use the predrilled holes that are in the steel section under the bumper skin. thats what i was told they were there for

Old thread I know but I'm curious as to how water proof the sensors turned out to be?
I have them on our 2WD but that doesn't go under water...

                        Hi Malcolm,

For normal city running they are fine. I haven't taken my Prado off road for some time so haven't tested them fully submerged.

I've had them on an Estima for close to 10 years and the sensors are still working fine, so for rain and car washing they are fine but I've never tried them out under water...
                          Someone must have done so?

Mine have been under water a few times now but I didn't consider that they worked properly in the first place. Having said that they are no worse and sadly no better after a drink.
