  • Theives Abound - Sydney Inner West

Just issuing a warning to all Prado (& RAV4) owners, there is currently a spate of theft of parts off RAVs and Prados in the inner west of Sydney, in particular Earlwood, Campsie and Bardwell Park areas (according to Police). For instance my brother (120 series) had his spare wheel & cover stolen 2 weeks ago and 2 days ago they came back and stole both side steps. I suggest that you padlock your spare wheel.

By the way - they are brazen as they entered his property on both occasions!!

Wow Andy that is game. Side steps as well.

My boss had his spare wheel and factory bull bar taken off his vehicle parked in his driveway in "The Shire" in two separate instances.

I have padlocked my spare and just bought secondhand sliders and will give my side steps to my bro - but let's see how long they will last!!

Time to put a 10000 volt charge through the body of the vehicle, so when the little f**kers touch it, they get fried.

Not sure if you read our local rag Andy last friday ?? but some low life, ratbag, waste of breath, scum over your way decided to rip out a letter box from some ones front garden and peg it through the rear window of a car near by. Lucky it wasnt my car and I got hold of him, cause the local rag would have been delivered up his clacker as his rear end would have had the round bit of pipe that is attached to my letter box for the local rag, low life piece of shit.........................

                    Guys,

Moral is fit a good after market alarm, you can get ones that integrate into the
cars keyless entry. If you get one with a microwave sensor, if anyone starts messing
around trying to remove accessories etc it will trip the alarm.

You also need to get one with two or three immobiliser circuits, they can then be
wired into the cars electrics to prevent ie:

The key transponder working, doesn't matter if they swap it out the car still won't fire up.

Prevent the engine management system from firing up again if the swap out the engine ECU
they still can't start the car.

Only way they can get it then is to tow or put on a flat bed and doing either should trip
the impact sensor so aleast the car will make some noise and hopefully alert someone.

And if you can afford it most models these days can have tracking incorporated.

                    Cheers

Sounds like they are almost 'stealing to order'. Spare wheel cover, yeah well I can understand, but when they start unbolting stuff, that gets a bit full on, especially a factory bullbar!

Geez, if you want a factory bullbar, just sign up to PP! Plenty of people on here swapping them for steel! (Or is that steal...)

It's the same dodgy guys fixing up rough looking 300,000km cars and selling them with "low kms" only 100,000km. It's a lot more cost effective for them to steal parts than buy from wreckers or genuine. Also, if you book your car in for service or repairs with the wrong people, you may drive home with different parts. Very nasty.

I know someone in the St George area that had the spare stolen off his Prado recently while it was parked in his driveway. FYI the factory key operated lock nut is useless against these theives.
