I've fitted them to Low and High beam. The manual adjustment seems to do both lights and gives a lot of adjustment, apparently better than the auto leveling judging by some comments. The improvement is huge, high beam is a bigger improvement than low beam.

Toyota haven't said anything during servicing, you really need to look hard to find the ballast as it is mounted behind the bumper and looks like it was meant to be there.

Sounds like the go, modifying the GXL which has the manual height adjustment with HID, the factory auto levelling does not seem to be much chop unless mine are defective?, I will be convinced that they are OK once I sort out my to high low beam after my lift!

It doesnt sound like there is an issue with the Auto level unit of the headlights, I think your lift may not be level, did you do any measurements before and after to see if it is level?

The auto adjust on the headlights is there to compensate for a load being on board, or trailer etc, when the bum will dip, the lights go down, if the level system thinks your bum is too high, which it may not be, it will move the lights up. But the level system is looking for different angles front to rear to determin the load, it doesnt adjust to the angle of the road surface, just the body relitive to the wheels.

When you turn your headlights on, do the do the up/down/left/right thing where they go through the range of motion of the adjusters, park against a walll and turn them on to see.

I would check to make sure the bum of your car has not come up too far in relation to your front, unless you plan on putting a big load in soon, this can be bad as it changes all of your steering geometry.

Try putting a load in the back, say 150kg, all the way to the rear of the wagon section or hook up a trailer and put a load towards the front to drop the tail of the car, take it for a drive and see how you go, I dont think taking the lights outside of thier normal range of adjustment is the answer. It may work, it may be as simple as tilting the body of the lights forward, by spacing under thier top mounts, I dont know if the Auto level will try to adjust that out, but I doubt it.

What type of bulb is fitted in the high beam on a vx/kakadu?
I want to order a hid kit before the car gets here.

              Thanks Eugene_Oz, some great comments.
My lights do the move up & down / side to side thing when there are turned on, so they seem to be functioning. I think your on the money to space the mounts of the light body and the system should ccontinue to work as is (adjust for load / body attitude changes). Now I just need to pull things appart and see where I can perhaps shim / space the light bodies.
              Cheers

There is a place to insert a long start screwdriver and adjust the halogen lights downwards, on the front valence, it has an icon of a light on it. To lower the lights turn the screwdriver clockwise.

Old thread, but same problem. 2 inch lift and now everyone gives me the finger when driving at night. I followed the instructions from the link from Starbuck above, and I see movement on 3 of the 4 aiming screws (Hi beam up/down, left/right and low beam left and right), but adjusting the vertical aim makes no difference - the light doesn't move.

What model and year do you have bob ?

My 2016 kak is self levelling when you turn the car on they automatically point up then back down again, I have been doing a few long night runs and have not been flashed yet

Have you tried adjusting the rear ride height via the incabin control ?
If you run the rear up it pushes the front down

The fix is there is a load sensor underneath at the back that needs to be adjusted.
