  • 150 VX/Kakadu Low Beam HID Colour Temperature

I want to add HID to my high beam that will match the colour temp of the low beam. Does anyone know the low beam colour temperature? Most likely 4300K but have heard some OEMs are now using 5000K. The Dealership say they have e-mailed Toyota and I've had a look behind the low beam globes but no luck so far.

i was surprised to see that the high beam wasnt HID. Are there any kits that are designed to upgrade the high beam only in the VX/Kakadu? Are upgraded Halogen lights an option as well?

I added 5000K high beam and Spotties to my rig and they are definitely whiter than the factory Low Beam. My best guess would be 4300K for the Low Beam.

I upgraded my high beams to HID through Newpro-Tech. Good price and fast delivery. The upgrade was so simple to do and makes a big difference.

Who cares if the hi beams don't match the lo beam? Doesnt make a diff from drivers seat. I put 50w HID 5000k into my hi beam - awesome. Factory is 4300.

I think it was about $185 for the hi beams and $250 for the spottie upgrade (LF 240 XGT). Both were 55watt kits with 5000k bulbs.

                  G'day Gents
I have a VX with the factory HID low Beam lights, recently fitted a OME 2"ift kit, now my low beam head lights have gone north. I understand the factory HID low beam lights which are also meant to be self levelling?. Any oncoming traffic is hit with this brilliant white light and it would be fair to say 20% of people flash me as they assume I have my high beam on. According to Toyota, there is a mechanical adjustment for the low beam however it’s only 1.3⁰. This has resulted in no achievement in lowering the light level with the adjustment in the lowest position.

Has anyone had or knows of this same issue, Toyota are giving me the run around, I am waiting on ARB and currently I feel uncomfortable in driving at dark, as I approach oncoming traffic, I can see their faces lit up.

Appreciate any assistance or direction you may be able to offer.

                  Cheers

I had the same problem with low beams shooting up too high after a lift, at first the dealer said they didn't know how to fix it, I got a call a few days later to bring the car for adjustment. The beams are now a bit loo low I think, no more flashing from others but the range is also reduced.

I fitted a Phillips 4300k HID kit for low and high beam and the colour is very similar to the OEM HID on my Honda. Its also a lot better than the blue tinge that you get with anything 5000k and above.

As mentioned in the previous post the high beam is not instant on, instead the high beam flashes on brightly when you turn it on and then drops to a lower level and fully warms up in 1-3 seconds

Also beware that the cheaper HID kits generally have cheaper ballasts which can fail prematurely.

Appreciate the heads up, unlike your dealer, mine never called me back, even after several messages. Any chance you could share the dealers name and apx. when then carried out the mods, if so, perhaps I could get my dealer to talk to them and learn something at the same time.

                        Appreciate if you could assist

                        Thanks

                            Hi Darek

Thanks for your thread, understand the std lights on the GXL can be adjusted with a lot more lattitude and they also have an adjustment accessable within the cabin, unfofortunately on VX & Kakadu models which have HID with the AFS system and auto level function, the level of adjustment is only 1.3 degress and does not cut the mustard.
According to another thread response, his Toyota dealer achieved the results with a modification, however all dealers I have called don't know how to achieve and adjustment greater than the mechanical 1.3 degress which is done with an extra long phillips head screw driver which I have done, but they are still to high!

                            Thanks for your response.

Hi, let me say first that this is a good thread there are probably alot of people with questions about HID lights out there.
I currently own a GXL 150 Prado and i was looking at converting my lights to HID but i have been recently been informed that they are illegal without having auto-leveling lights so i have a few questions regarding this upgrade and any help much appreciated:
1: does the auto-leveling level out the high beam as well if it does not than does that mean its illegal to fit HID to the high beam ?
2: Is it possible to purchase the lighting equipment needed to change the GXL manual light leveling to the VX/Kakadu auto-leveling ?
3: Is it worth the amount of time and money to convert the high and low beam to HID ?
The only reason i am putting so much research into this is that i do not want to void a warranty claim
Once again thankyou for any assistance...
