Up to you, but i would recommend the mod as a cheap gain for little pain.
    Ditto.. Well said Kev

didnt wanna start a new thread, but me and my mate having troubles just wanted to know if every one with the 3 inch has the same problem.

i have a 3 inch manta system and he has the 3 inch tiapan setup both all the way through of course, but the section that goes over the top of the right hand side rear axle seems to be wearing just above the axle obviously when r/h suspension side is fully compressing on it. Mine has been pushed in slightly and my mates is nearly worn through the exhaust.

Only a few weeks old both systems but just curious if every one has the same problem? both have standard suspension setups at the moment, i plan on getting lift kit very soon but does that actually fix that issue of the rear axcel squashing rubbing the exhaust?

      Cheers Scott

After getting the hayman reese bar fitted the exhaust was now contacting the bolt heads and making an awful chatter when idling at lights etc, dropped down the exhaust shop for a different rubber and while i was there they dropped in a lukey straight through stainless muffler. Must say its nice, car feels like it breathes easier or a little less restricted and no change to exhaust note that i can hear inside the cab. Will have to wait until the mrs drives off in it i guess to see if its any different outside.

Now just got to get rid of this rattle/flutter sound in the head of airtec snorkel and i'll be a happy camper.

          Hi all,

I dropped in at Everything 4wd in Cranbourne today to get a few things (BTW they have moved to a bigger place on the South Gippsland Hwy from their old place around the corner), while I was there I asked about doing the muffler replacement and he said that he would do a group buy/install if we get 5 people interested. We talked about the Redback muffler, no specific prices yet. I will probably go ahead regardless, but if there are others in Melbourne that are interested, let me know and I'll chase it up some more with specific prices.

Just to mention, I get nothing extra out of this apart from the same group discount that we would all get if we can get 5 in total. From what others have said here, the total price should be under $250, so we would not save heaps, but it might be worthwhile.

            An update:

2010 VX D4d, with now 46000km, at the 20K mark I removed the cat from the stock Exhaust, I had a high flow unit to fit if any fault codes came up, but I thought I would try it, car also has the EGR blocked off.

the rest of the the exhaust is stock.

Fuel use dropped by .6 to .8 lt per 100k, depending on who is driving, wife is better than me.

no difference in exhaust noise INSIDE the car, at idle, driving etc, just appears as stock.

At idle standing next to the car, you can hear a slight turbo noise, not offensive, but it is there, just a low whistle, I have heard the car drive off from home many times now and you can hear the turbo spooling up even at light throttle.

The big change is in driving the car, the rough spot at 1400-1500rpm is gone, all hesitation is gone, it runs out to redline without any flat spots, it pulls much harder, it just goes better in every way.

Lightly loaded, just 4 people and light load, it will give a real world (measured and checked) fuel use of under 8lt per 100k. I have done over 1600km per tank several times with normal driving, best I got before was around 1400k.

Total cost was ZERO, solved a few issues I had, and no downside, other than no cat, I have a glass packed muffler on the way and will be putting in the 4" metal cat and muffler to get back to legal and same power I hope.

            NO chip fitted.
            No fault codes ever.

Best mod you can do, but put in a High flow, high Quality metal cat to stay legal.

Well i bit the bullet and had a redback glass packed muffler fitted today. Noise levels are bugger all louder than stock, but seems to have lost some response at low throttle or getting back on it after a gear change (manual). I'm thinking perhaps the computer needs to "relearn" fuel trims etc over time because of the free flow muffler?. I remember commodores had to do this after an exhaust change. I've only done 100km since it was fitted car has safari snorkel but otherwise stock.
              Cheers.

Hi azzss how is the muffler, is it worth doing?
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

                  Hi maxjj,
Well put it this way, i'm back running the stock muffler. I don't know why it felt lazy with the high flow one on it as others on here swear by them. Maby its because mine's a manual and when the boost dropped of between gear changes it was slow to boost up again i reckon. I think a full system is the go to do it propley.
                  Cheers.

My manual has a Steinbauer, Snorkel and the rear muffler changed.

                    Goes like a scalded cat....

cheers thanks, maybe they do need some back pressure, particular at low revs.
With the steinbauer and snorkel the whole system may just be getting that bit more airflow so it can build pressure quicker.

I am happy enough with the day to day performance, its when I hook up the close to 2500 loaded van that I want to help car out a bit.
When I look at the cost of the steinbauer and exhaust and the chance of affecting engine life and warranty, for the bit of extra grunt and maybe saving fuel it doesn`t seem worth it.
I would want a conservative tune with longevity in mind and would only be prepared to change part of the exhaust, not headers.

I reckon its got enough grunt for towing, as you tend to sit on 95-100 actual speed anyway. Going up speed hills it will loose speed in 4th but once it changes to third, it pulls just fine.

More importantly it can do with some springs, most likely dobinson and some lovely Bilsteins.

                        I agree,
They tow 2500kg's no worries stock which is the legal limit anyway (for my 120, not sure on the 150's) if you need to tow more, better off with a crusier etc. Servicing, regular fuel filter changes keeping air flow meter and egr clean running tyre pressures right will keep the stock D4D at its best IMO.
                        Cheers.

ok, from all the above I conclude that the best bang for buck is the sport muffler only, i have a quote for about $200 for this which is similar to others, probably go for a Lukey. Now its the big muffler just in front of the diff to replace right??

Also are their any warranty issues with Toyota? My car is only 6 months old and on a lease. Has anyone tested this or asked the question. Do we need to get written acknowledgement or whatever, any views on that please

                          cheers

I only paid about $150. Yes, just the one big muffler. No issues with Toyota.

I would be interested in something group in Melbourne. Cranbourne is a little away for me but might be worth my while. Im keen just to get the muffler done, and I understand Everything 4WD has some good front recovery points I wanted to get too!

Hi pp team, I am enquiring if any WA crew have fitted a 'sports' 'hi-flow' centre to centre muffler to their factory 150 exhaust. I would appreciate any local recommendations in Perth metro.
