With the steinbauer and snorkel the whole system may just be getting that bit more airflow so it can build pressure quicker.

I am happy enough with the day to day performance, its when I hook up the close to 2500 loaded van that I want to help car out a bit.
When I look at the cost of the steinbauer and exhaust and the chance of affecting engine life and warranty, for the bit of extra grunt and maybe saving fuel it doesn`t seem worth it.
I would want a conservative tune with longevity in mind and would only be prepared to change part of the exhaust, not headers.

I reckon its got enough grunt for towing, as you tend to sit on 95-100 actual speed anyway. Going up speed hills it will loose speed in 4th but once it changes to third, it pulls just fine.

More importantly it can do with some springs, most likely dobinson and some lovely Bilsteins.
    I agree,
They tow 2500kg's no worries stock which is the legal limit anyway (for my 120, not sure on the 150's) if you need to tow more, better off with a crusier etc. Servicing, regular fuel filter changes keeping air flow meter and egr clean running tyre pressures right will keep the stock D4D at its best IMO.
    Cheers.

I have an diesel, auto 150 and changed out the rear muffler for a Lukey straight through, high flow muffler about two months ago (also have a snorkel but no chip - still undecided on that front). At first I thought it made a difference particularly with the low-end turbo lag. Then over time, I have started to notice it again... this may just be due to me getting used to the new level of performance and picking up on the finer performance levels over time. Overall though I am not sure whether it has been worth doing to be honest.

ok, from all the above I conclude that the best bang for buck is the sport muffler only, i have a quote for about $200 for this which is similar to others, probably go for a Lukey. Now its the big muffler just in front of the diff to replace right??

Also are their any warranty issues with Toyota? My car is only 6 months old and on a lease. Has anyone tested this or asked the question. Do we need to get written acknowledgement or whatever, any views on that please

    cheers

I only paid about $150. Yes, just the one big muffler. No issues with Toyota.

    Mark,
I would be interested in something group in Melbourne. Cranbourne is a little away for me but might be worth my while. Im keen just to get the muffler done, and I understand Everything 4WD has some good front recovery points I wanted to get too!
    cheers

We talked about the Redback muffler, no specific prices yet. I will probably go ahead regardless, but if there are others in Melbourne that are interested, let me know and I'll chase it up some more with specific prices.

Just to mention, I get nothing extra out of this apart from the same group discount that we would all get if we can get 5 in total. From what others have said here, the total price should be under $250, so we would not save heaps, but it might be worthwhile.

Hi pp team, I am enquiring if any WA crew have fitted a 'sports' 'hi-flow' centre to centre muffler to their factory 150 exhaust. I would appreciate any local recommendations in Perth metro.
    Cheers

I have not done anything about the exhaust yet as I found the noisy rattle I was getting was due to the bolts with the springs on the flange joint not doing up enough as there was not enough threaded section. Swap the bolts over and all good. This has not made me so pressed to go in and get it changed over too.

I have just ordered today a Chip It chip, egt controller, throttle controller, & oil catch can so I will be doing something very soon as ill be itching for the exhaust mod. To be honest ive been thinking to go full exhaust due to the fact that regardless I will need the dump pipe modified for the EGT controller sensor.

The Prado's biggest power robbing factor is the muffler, cat, and dump pipe. The pipe size is not the issue.
Change to high flow muffler and 100cpi cat for best bang for buck is my answer.

I now have to way up if the muffler cat & dump pipe made bigger with 1/8 gas bung & labour is worth doing comparied to a full system. ill be seeing Allan next week and keep you updated on his cost and thougths

just got a lukey muffler cut and welded onto my prado.
car definately drives different, it's a lot smoother and better response at low revs.
no drone at all, but you can hear it's there and a bit of turbo whistle.
fuel economy on dash has dropped by 1-1.2 L/100 straight away.
any WA pper's PM for details.
    cheers
