  • Hey mate, awesome build there, very impressive! I'm thinking about doing the Fox shocks in mine very shortly, do you happen to have a link to what part numbers you used, or where you got them from? I think you had a link there at some point but it might be dead..

    Cheers!

      • So I finally pulled my finger out and installed the DC to DC charger today.. Only had it sitting on the shelf for a couple of months LOL

Need to extend the battery cable for the 2nd battery but for the moment it's all go! Looks trick under the hood to. Will see how it holds up to the dust and water now. Later on ill wire up a solar panel to.

I also refitted the Chip last night. Since ChipIt have gone bust and the Dominator I was promised never arrived I rewired the chip as the extra torque would be nice..

        • Put a 40w solar panel on order last week to hook up to the DC to DC and had to replace my 2nd battery again as it had dropped a cell or two (under warranty), so ill be able to keep it charged a bit more consistently with the fridge running as it will be a permanent feature on the roof rack.

          • Please let us know how you go with the 40w pannel.
I was told I would need atleast 80w to get enough power to open the CTEK.
(ps. set my solar input up with green anderson plugs so no-one could plug into the 12v output which uses std grey andersons... (they are keyed differently so different colours can not be plugged together)

Hmmm, that's interesting. The CTEK doesn't say anything in the manual about what it needs to be switched? I've got a 20W panel here already so I might even hook that in today before work and see if it does anything.

Had a bit of a win yesterday with the CHIPIT also... With them going bust and me being stuck with it with no support I started playing with the settings and boost and seem to have found the sweet spot. Prado is running soo much better and now even holds it's gears going up hills with the cruise set to 100kph and at 110kph, it dropped back once on the run back from Newcastle to Muswellbrook and held gears other than that for the entire run after I fluked the setting. I played with it all the way down to Newey and up to the 1st rest stop on the way back to get it right.

Went from going backwards and running out of steam going up slight grades (with the check eng light coming on all the time) to pulling up hills with the cruise on and the EGT's sitting at 350 - 400 Deg C all the way... It's a nice feeling to finally get a result with this bloody thing!!

                  • Riteo.... The ChipIt has now been relegated to the BIN! MUMSRIG was driven for the last time with it installed this morning from Muso to Tamworth in order for it to be delivered to Diesel Care and have a Steinbauer Chip installed and tuned on the dyno...

The last straw was driving to Boggabri and back over the weekend with the camper and using 90ltrs of Diesel to travel just shy of 400klms.

Although I thought I'd had a win as mentioned above, towing was a totally different story. EGT's were up and so was the fuel consumption. I don't want to risk the motor so it's GONE!!

I've left MUMSRIG in the capable hands of the team at Diesel Care to sort her out once and for all. Costing a small fortune but I'm hoping for big things! Fingers and toes are crossed!

                    • Oh and by the way... I installed the Solar Panel the other day. And it certainly does switch the CTEK snewby. One thing I didn't know though, was that with this type of controller/charger I had to change my winch power to the main battery as the CTEK will not let enough power go to the 2nd battery under load under the 1st reaches a certain state of charge which will result in it running down over longer periods. The older redarc solenoid type simply switches across once it receives a certain voltage.

I also purchased a CTEK 10amp 7 stage battery charger to help keep the batts at their best.

                      • I've received some not so good news today which I'm finding extremely hard to believe... But some points sound feasible...

Diesel Care rang today and said that they put MUMSRIG on the dyno and did a run with the ChipIt chip and one without. They stated that she only had 30horsepower at the wheels! Yes, just 30hp?!

First assumption was the pump but I asked for them to remove the injectors and check even though they aren't that old.. Reconditioned by Freo Fuel Inj in Perth..

They called back and said that the injector spring had a rediculous amount of preload on them and they are spraying all over the show during the bench test so they are being replaced and fingers crossed it will be the issue and it doesn't require a new pump

                        • Hi all,

We are awaiting a reply from Diesel Care as we are not happy with the service we received from them. As you may have read above we booked in to have a Steinbauer fitted. Well, we came out with 'rebuilt injectors and pump' (when we were told they would be replaced with new) and all for a reason (allegedly only 30hp on the dyno) that I didn't feel was evident prior to taking the vehicle to them as it hadn't performed this well for a long time. After all of this and the vehicle being there 1x day shy of a month it cost us over $4grand and we came out without the chip we requested and EXACTLY the same issue we took it there for!

This looks interesting. Anyone got a spare $3grand?

Thats just it. I know exactly whats wrong with it. It's the ChipIt Chip! You could drive without the chip with no excessive fuel consumption and obviously a bit less power but the EGT's were stable and it didn't blow stupid amounts of diesel out the back. Re-connect the ChipIt and it's chewing juice like there's no tomorrow, EGT's go through the roof and raw diesel goes out the bum... All I went there for was a Steinbauer however they found all these other alleged issues and replaced components which on paper showed improvement but i certainly can not feel it in the seat nor in the consumption figures.

                              • I don't have a chip but I reckon mine is spewing out unburnt diesel as my fuel economy is rubbish too. Will need to get it looked at in a couple of weeks
