  • Thanks for the feedback on the solar input... mine is 120watts so I never had a chance to check......
On the subject of the Chip-IT... I put one on my 120 a couple of years ago, and it was initially great... but the longer I ran it the more knocking and worse fuel consumption I got... I was looking at new injectors when the mechanic said try it without the chip .. so I unplugged the chip and ran the bypass plug... OK, down a bit on power but car seemed much "happier" (smoother and quieter etc). Eventually I pulled out the harness and put the lot back in its box. Car has been running well all thru last winter's cold...
I think that the D4D just can't handle the extra fuel rail pressure.
I ended up not even replacing the injectors - but am sure that day will come.
So if you want the chip, one with std fuel pressure looks the way to go.

Ours is pre-common rail and simply provides a regulated voltage to the spill valve. This 'regulated' is the issue in my opinion. More fuel but nothing else gets adjusted to compensate. Hence higher consumption and higher EGT's.

I just wish Diesel Care had fitted the Steinbauer and removed the ChipIt like I originally asked instead of finding all of these other so called issues. All my concerns were based on the ChipIt.

I don't doubt that there are vehicles out there with injector and injector pump issues and depending on your kays getting the injectors serviced every 100,000klms is probably a good thing. Hopefully it's something simple for you.

        • Hi all, I thought I would update this thread with some info regarding the current status of MUMSRIG regarding power and torque output.

Standard with 3" mandrel bent exhaust and muddies plus a uni filter was 48.3kW@tw with 254Nm of torque

When the ChipIt was installed we ended up with 67.2kW@tw with 346Nm of torque at 15psi of boost

With the addition of the new Injection Pump, Injectors, rebuilt and Hi-Flowed Turbo, K&N Filter and the Steinbauer and with only 12psi of boost we netted 63.8kW@tw and 655Nm of torque

I'm going to install the lockup torque converter modification so we can ramp it up a bit better on the dyno and play with the Steinbauer a little more as it's just been left at the 'out of the box' setting and can be adjusted by the dealer through the laptop so we can get a bit more grunt.

Overall MUMSRIG feesl a lot better, power delivery is much smoother and i don't need as much throttle to get it going anymore. It cruises much more efortlessly and it looks as if the fuel consumption has improved a little. I just filled it up again so will see how we go with this tank before I jump for joy LOL

                  • 300Nm increase in torque but a minor drop in power, something is fishy there. Possibly the dyno runs have been done in different gears, skewing the torque result.

Bingo Leachy.... I was waiting for someone to catch on

Apparently the dyno never lies LOL

This is the reason I will be fitting the torque converter lockup mod so I can utilise it to hold the gears without upshifting with a minor mod... Bloody autos

                      • Wifey has decided to keep the Prado. 1x less bill we will have to worry about each month if we had replaced it!

                        Good decision I say!

                        • Hi all,

It's been a while since I've done anything to the old girl and today I upgraded the dual battery system's DC DC set up. A while ago I installed a CTEK D250S along with the Solar Panel however I wasn't seeing the results I was after as I was having to continually charge the 2nd battery as it wasn't getting enough from the CTEK. I did a bit more investigation and found that if I added the CTEK SMARTPASS to the D250S then it would favour the 2nd battery plus the output would be higher and help charge the batteries quicker.

I installed it today and did a few tests. It's definitely the answer to my problem! It controls the system much better now!

                          Here are a few pics.
