Thanks for the information. I did not see any such option with Toyota accessories.

      • I ended up going with the Toyota one - mainly because we're heading away a few days after we pick the car up and I didn't have time to organise another one.

Is the usual spot for the 7 pin socket "well protected"? I've ripped the one off the back of our Subaru Outback and Dad's done the same on his cars in the past. Dad's suggestion was to get them to leave all the cable coiled up in the jack "hole" then pull it out and stick it through the back door when we need to use it - that way there is nothing hanging down. Good idea? Not a problem?

        • The standard location is on top of the towbar so it's fine.

          • This may be a stupid question but can the std Hayman Reece gooseneck or tongue or whatever its called be flipped around to get the tow ball a little higher?

              • Had a problem with the wiring on my towbar not working, worked out I had managed to damage it with a quite large stick in Tassie last month. Being time poor I rang Wynnum Towbars where I got it (mine was the first 150 towbar they had done 6 years ago) and spoke to the owner Leo to see when they could repair it for me.

Leo said just call 30 mins before you get here and we will look at it straight away, my SWMBO took it over and they replaced the damaged wiring (rerouting it to make it better protected) also said the plug was a bit iffy so replaced that as well while she waited, about an hours work. When she asked how much they refused and sort of payment saying that they back all their services and products. Cartons of beer will be dropped in this afternoon.

Bet you can't find old fashioned service like that many places any more, well done Wynnum Towbars!

                  • Incrediable fitting of 7 pin plug

When I bought my GXL from New Town Toyota in WA, a part of the deal was the fitting of a HR tow bar. When I got the vehicle home I noticed NTT had screwed the 7 pin plug to the bumper using selftappers. Incredible!!! I will post a photo tomorrow.

                    • I have trolled through a few pages here. It seems Toyota tow bar is a no-go and Wynnum is the place to go. Is that correct? If it is i would like to request the dealers not to worry about the Tow bar. I for sure do not want the cut in the bumper. Missus wants to keep the other car anyway. So in case I ever feel the need can some one guide me with how much the entire setup - (TowBar + Ball + Wiring Harness + Fitting) will end up costing me? The quote I have from Toyota is $952.
Also, is there a general consensus on 7 pin round or Flat?

                      • In the 150s I don't think there is much difference between any of the towbar said. I have the OEM unit. You should be able to do a lot better than that price though it has been a couple of years since I bought mine. As for round or flat you will find people who love both. I went from round to flat because the flat is easier to clean and spending a month a year on beaches that was important to me. With the round plug I would find the trailer lights would play up until I cleaned the lugs but no such trouble with the flat plugs.

With regards to fitting there is a bit involve because the third row seating or a big chunk of it has to come out to run the wiring. If you go to my build in the signature I link to the fitting instructions for removal of the seats.

                        • Hayman reese cost me around 700 installed from local TJM dealer. I like where it sits with no bumper cut!

                          • When negotiating the purchase of the new car, I slipped in the sentence right at the end "with a tow bar" and got genuine fitted for free. Sometimes it's worth asking.
