120 Series Strut Top Mounts

Heyall,

Wondering if anyone has punched through the plates on the Top Mounts?? Ive got 05 thats just had her 90K service, and around 1000 back (up the Cape) I managed to punch the struts through the Top Mounts. Toyo here in Cairns found me a second hand set, but Im thinking that if the last set went through fairly easily, how long will the next last!! Im running the Lovells/Bilsteins 2" HD combo and they were only in for 6000 K's. I did mount the winch in the day before the Telli track, so perhaps the added weight...
BTW, I passed quite a few big Cruisers and Patrols that had turned back at Nolans Brook due to water depth. The Prado breezed it in and had a day of fame when we got up to Bamaga before them! Prados rock!!!

I just junked a set today and a pair of bilsteins.

Mine had 100k roughly on them. The bloody shafts of the shocks ended up wearing into the mounts an result squeaks and carnage

Anyhow, new shocks and mounts fixed her up nice and tight now !!

What happened to your Bilstein's Matt? Did you get new set or did you go something else?

Swapped them out for some new Hilux Tough Dogs, got the height as I had before due to the spring retainer height being alittle higher on the Hilux strut. I will get the Billys rebuilt and change out another day in the future.

Yep, punched through the top on the near side front between Birdsville and Innamincka the other week. In geting repaired as I type. I thought it was just the strut, but the mechanic called a little while back to say I needed a new top plate as well.

Matt, how bad was the squeak before you swapped them out as mine has just strarted to squeak?? Only hear I at slow speed or if you shake the car in whilst parked I can hear it.

Yeah had the same issue of the right hand side of my 90 series when in Alice Springs easter last year. (Bilstein struts and King springs) Boys at OL Alice Springs pulled it apart and found the strut had been fitted incorrectly. Locating washer and rubber were around the wrong way (ie incorrect order). Couldn't get another plate from Toyota Alice so OL did a great job welding the elongated hole back to correct size and then correctly refitted the strut so we could be back in Brisbane in 4 days. The shop in Caboolture that originally fitted the strut finally agreed to replace the strut free of charge. The repaired plate remains in place and has since done a Simpson crossing. Well done OL Alice.

after stumbling across this thread whist looking for something else. it reminded me of a squeak i heard the other week on the odd occasion that i get to drive this thing. turns out the L/H side of mine is gone aswell.. oh well off to Pedders tomorrow to get a couple of new ones.. ( toyota are Nill stock Aus and are a 7 week wait )
