  • Which colour wire on brake pedal to connect Tekonsha P3 electric brake controller to?

I have read all the posts on installation, and where to mount the controller, but what I have not been able to find, is which wire(colour) have people connected to on the brake pedal.
I am attempting the instal tonight, so some swift feedback is required.

    Thanks All

        Rob,

Read the "destructions", and watched the installation video(which is made by some very average American film-crew). There has been several posts stating issues on connecting to the brake pedal etc, but it appears the way to go, after speaking to a few auto-electricians, but they would not reveal the trick of their trade
Any assistance from anyone who has installed one woul dbe greatly appreciated.

Don't bother connecting into the switch at the brake pedal it's a PITA to get access. Just run the signal wire to the back of the car and connect at the brake light. It doesn't take anymore effort to do it this way because you need to run the brake (blue) wire to the back of the car anyway. BTW if you have a genuine towbar wiring loom the electric brake (blue) wire will already be conencted at the trailer plug and just rolled up in the panel near the jack.

            Leachy,

Does this work?? Sorry for me questioning this, but just want to make sure. I am confident the wiring loom is genuine

Thanks for your input, it will be greatly appreciated tonight during instal

thats the way i did mine. was so much easier than trying to get in under the dash and still be able to see what you were doing. its much quicker. i ended up running a cable all way thru to towbar point than use "their" rolled up blue cable - probably no need to, but i figured it was one less join to make. i connected to the wire behind LHS rear light. do it this way and you will be spending more time drinking and less time doing

btw - do a search on how/where i fitted my p3 unit. IMO it has worked out to be a brilliant spot to put it, here it is:

I fitted the same brake controller just the other month, no real issue splicing into loom at the brakelight switch, everything working well.

It is the Green wire with the yellow stripe, (2008 D4D GXL).

                Cheers.

Yep. Works fine. This is how installed mine. Just make sure you connect to the correct side of the stop light ie. not the ground side.

I also only connected to brake light wire and works fine (150 series though).

Installed a P3 yesterday into my 2004 120 series. I removed a couple of panels for easier access to the switch. Squeeze the release clip on the back of the cable plug to remove it from the actual brake switch. This makes cutting in and soldering fairly easy.

Looks like my fun is just beginning. Have the brake controller, UHF and power wire to anderson plug to install. Thanks for the info and hints.

Just to confirm as per the above, the Green wire with yellow stripe for brake activation works, was thinking of taking the easy way but it wasn't that hard to hook into.(2007 GXL D4D)

Hi Guys, old thread I know. But it has helped me no end installing my P3. Question, is a ScotchLok enough to secure the wire at the brake pedal loom? It was sort of easy to get to, but not sure if I need more than the ScotchLok.

Must confess MD I was lazy and used one of those. Has been there for 6 months no probs but I promise it's on my list of things to, eg splice and solder properly.
