Thread: How do I turn car off without turning accessories off?

How do I turn car off without turning accessories off?

In any vehicle with a key, when you turn the engine off you just turn the key to the 'accessories' position and therefore keep the radio/cd/gps/whatever running.

In the 150 series when you turn the engine off by pressing the start/stop button it turns everything off. Is there a way to turn the engine off without turning accessories off? I have looked through the manual but not found anything about this.

    Thanks

Turn the car off when the gear selector is in any position other than Park "P". This is for auto models.

Yup, you could leave it in N (neutral) before turning the engine off if you have an auto.

What I do is press the stop/start button so that the vehicle engine stops. Once that happens, press the stop/start button again, however, do not put your foot on the brake pedal otherwise the engine will start. Accessories will turn on and the radio, CD player, etc will play. To turn off the accessories, press the stop/start button twice and all power is stopped.

Thanks for the solution VXWesty, and also thanks to andoland for putting out the question .Another problem solved. I used to do exactly what Yowie described above. Tried the above solution and it works like a charm.

    Cheers.

Yowie suggested the correct solution, the others may work but I would (and do) use Yowie's solution. You will note that the led turns orange after you push the start/stop button with no brake pedal depressed, to deselct accesories, leave your foot off the brake pedal and press the start/stop button twice more and everything will be off again as Yowie stated.

I know this is an old thread, but I was discussing this with the wife only yesterday... for those of us with Manual transmission, we either have to wait till the end of the song to turn off the engine, or miss out on the best bit of our tragic favourite when we turn off and back on to accessories? Not sure I could live with the guaranteed hassle I would cop for days if I chose the deliberate stall method :-)

Since I posted this reply, I found a better way for those with an automatic. Stop the vehicle in gear, press the stop/start button to stop the engine, however, the radio/CD etc still keeps playing, then apply handbrake and place into Park. This way there is no stopping of the radio/CD player and waiting for it to return to playing. Unfortunately this does not help Boris.

Does anyone know how to stop the door chime ringing when you have the drivers door open and the vehicle on accessories? Drives me mad when I'm camping.

according to my dealer its a safety feature and must not be removed from the vehicle.. what a crock of sh!t.
just cut the wire to the speaker... gets rid of all the annoying big brother/nanny state features.

Pressing the start button twice (once for ACC, twice for 'ON') will stop the door chimes for one hour. Then the car switches itself off. To reset just push the start button twice.
