  • Thanks guys for all the input and suggestions. I have a feeling the TJM bar uses the middle hole, vaguely recall reading it somewhere.

@Whisky, The points from Everything 4WD are the Roadsafe ones, I just got mine from RoadRunner OffRoad as a)Everything 4WD were out of stock (even Roadsafe themselves were out of stock at the time) and b)RoadRunner Offroad (their own website, not eBay) were a bit cheaper.

    • Here's my roadsafe recovery points installed with a TJM T13 Bullbar.

      • Hey Brains thanks for the pic. That is the side I was looking for the chassis hole, couldn't see it forward of the spring. Do yours have 3 bolts on both sides?

Flicking through the T13 install instructions I note that it mentions "KDSS suspension models will only allow access to the rearmost hole in the chassis support bracket, which is sufficient fastening.". That seems to relate only to the driver's side though, the passenger side has 3 bolts in the chassis support bracket for the bullbar itself.

Somewhat OT but how do you find your TJM winch?

        • Brains would appear that my TJM bar has a different mounting bracket than yours....
went to try and fit my recovery points today and had a few issues.

photo of bullbar mounting bracket taken from passengers side

Photo of bullbar mounting bracket taken from drivers side

I attempted to fit the drivers side recovery point first and if I was to align the rear hole of the recovery point with the top rear most bolt hole for the bull bar mounting bracket than the recovery point would fowl on the forward TOP bullbar mounting bracket bolt head.

If I tried to align the lower top hole of the recovery point with the forward top bolt hole on the chassis than the recovery point fowled on what looks like the windscreen washer bottle.

Can you please take a photo of the drivers side of your vehicle so I can see what holes TJM Brendale have utilised and how I may overcome my issues.

          Thankyou

          • I'm pretty sure my brackets are the same as your Fabes and I have the same issues. On the driver's side only one of the two top bolt holes currently has a bolt in it but that's normal for KDSS models according to the T13 installation instructions. I wasn't sure if the point was going to hit that plastic box/bottle at the top of your last pic, was hoping once the bolt was out of the way it would slip in between the bottle/box and wheel arch liner.

            • Guys I have the GXL and the mounts are different, ill check with TJM whether there are different mounting hardware for the GX/GXL and VX/KAKADU. Mine have three bolts in both sides.

Ill get some photos tomorrow for you guys.

The top hole used is the one with the clip for the flexible/rubber inner guards/liners

                  • OK, so the top bolt actually goes in above the top of the bar support bracket. Fabes and I have been trying to line it up with the top 2 bolt holes in that bracket. And I can see from your pics that they had to cut some of the water bottle surround out, I was worried that might be an actual bottle which obviously you couldn't go cutting holes in. TJM are quoting me $60 to fit the points, I'm starting to think it might be easier to get them to do it.

What's the yellow goo coming out from under the bolts in the pics?

                    • Fido the yellow goo is torque seal. It dries hard and gives you reference point for checking the bolts (when making sure they aren't/haven't come loose).

                      • Thanks Steve, I thought it might be some sort of loctite.

Just went out and had a look at the mounts on my Kakadu and I think the mounting points are still different in that the clip holes used for the flexible lining are not in the same place. You can see the difference in Fabes' pics and the ones I posted in post #57 of ths thread. The clip hole on the passenger side is partially covered by the bull bar mount and on my Kakadu the liner is actually marked as "KL" not "FL" so I'm assuming it has some different bits in that location.

Darren also said they put a spacer in between the yellow recovery point and chassis on the top bolt. I believe they had to drill this hole larger than what the plug is. Three bolts are better than two in my opinion as it spreads the load.

I think Rogerthatv2 is getting some on his VX soon maybe wait until he gets some photos of his, I'll ask Darren what they do.

Well a spacer makes sense because the points in your case go over the edge of the bar mount. Looking at your pics and my own setup it's obvious the clip holes for the flexible liner are smaller than the bar mount ones.

I'll ask Darren what they do.
Thanks, appreciate it. I will get back on to Roadsafe and see what they have to say too.

Just waiting for my steps to arrive to book it in, Darren has it all ready to go but with Mt Isa this week, Singapore the week after next I would say it will be an early march install now.

The GX GXL and VX / Kakadu mounts are different, I should know as the issue with KDSS fitment of TJM bars was found on my car. You can fit a KDSS mount to a non KDSS car however the other way round does not work as you would have no bolt in the chassis rail on the passenger side.

The T13 installation instructions actually refer to KDSS suspension models only allowing access to the rearmost hole in the chassis support bracket and say that is enough.

I have noticed from Fabes pics of his GXL that his mount is the same layout as mine so I assume we both have the KDSS version, Brains must have the non-KDSS one. I wasn't aware there were 2 different versions, just assumed Brains had an older design.

BTW, when I ordered the points the supplier said that the Prado 150 only uses 1 bolt on the top/back mounting hole were the FJ Cruiser uses the 2 holes, the pic they had on their website was of the FJ.
