  • Hi all,
    Well that was bloody easy...!
Just bought a set of Roadsafe recovery points from Penrith offroad warehouse for $140.00
Got home and had the whole job done, including a glass of chardy in 20 mins.
As a big fan of fitting accessories myself, I thought the fit would be pretty straight forward, but that was a no brainer.
The points fit perfectly around the Ironman bullbar, so no issues there.
    Way to go roadsafe...
And just for the record, I think the replacement points are a hell of a lot stronger than the factory hold down points.

    • 150 a lot easier then a 120 especially when I have the sovereign bar not much mates up to it unless you start using spacers etc as the bullbar only uses one of the two holes where the point mounts to. Pain in the arse. Both my old 95's and hilux were literally a 10 minute job... Cheers Steve

The points for the Sovereign bullbar are currently good to go. They are made from Bisalloy 400 which is 2.5x stronger than high tensile steel and supplied with grade 12.9 bolts. And yes, spacers will be required for the rear most mounting hole.

              • Hate to be a pain, but can someone tell me how to use these wire-nuts for the roadsafe points? Maybe that I im using the wrong smaller hole, but damn if I can't get these things to align strongly enough in order to get a bolt to turn into it successfully while managing the weight of the point

                    • Thanks for the help!

I managed to get them installed in about a 5mins each side not including ratcheting the bolts up. Quite a simple process really, well, it is once you can get under the car properly (I don't have jack stands yet). I live in an apartment block and just couldn’t get my arms in there properly. Once I went to the other halfs house, I drove the car up the gutter and got the job done very easily… I just needed 10cm more clearance to get a good grip on things, and to have the nuts around the right way.

                      Here’s my tips:
                      - With the wirenuts, the flat side goes against the chassis to receive the bolt. I don’t know why I didn’t try this the first time around, apart from the wires you hold on to were bent the other way. Lesson learned.
                      - Do the bolt closest to the front of the car first (no brainer).
                      - Place the wirenut into the chassis insertion hole, and line the nut and the correct hole in the chassis that the bolt will go through. In retrospect a small screwdriver or pencil could have helped with this by putting it through the chassis hole and the nut. Figure out where on the wire you need to make a sharp bend so you can put a lot of tension into the wire when screwing in the bolt (to keep the nut in place). Make this bend, and then bend a second time towards the end of the wire, so that you have a makeshift handle.
                      - I then folded the wire between the chassis and the recovery point. I think this is a poor place to put it though as it will lead to rust from rubbing. I will change this tonight.

                        • This is an older thread but I'd like to acknowledge how helpful all the posts have been. Successfully installed the Roadsafe recovery points on my 0516 Prado GXL with a TJM T13 outback bar today. I'm a bit of a gumby as a mechanic but am trying to learn so this was a good day.

                          • The roadsafe ones fit with an Ironman bar- you just need a few spacers at the rear to allow for the thickness of the bull bar brackets.
