  • Has anyone fitted a Genuine Toyota Prado 150 Series Bullbar?

    Hi

I pickup a Petrol Kakadu next week and am looking at the different options for Bullbars.

The Mrs likes the look of the Genuine bar and I like the look of the ARB bar...

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-GENUI...item41578b27da

ARB also wont guarantee that their bar wont interfere with the Kakadu's crash preperation technologies

I was wondering if anyone has installed the Genuine bar by themselves? Any downsides to buying the Genuine bar?
I dont want to fit a winch so thats not a problem.

I looked at a lot of options. My first question for you is which ARB bar are you looking at? If it is the steel one, the main difference is the strength. Hit a big roo with the alloy and you could still have a lot of trouble driving home.

I must admit I am bias as I hate the look of the original bar. As I am doing a lot of outback travelling and have had three close calls with roos and one wombat this year alone, steal was the only choice for me. If you are not doing that much off road I would go with the genuine and get it fitted by Toyota. Then if you have any issues, there is only one place to take it and they will not complain about how it is fitted.

And remember that if you fit a steel bar you will need to get your front suspension fixed or you will have issues with the steering. The weight will cause it to sag.

I had my ARB bar fitted through the dealer before I purchased the vehicle. They never raised any issues with the fitment of such accessories, on the contary they actively sought out the pricing and arranged the fittment for me prior to delivery. Discuss your options with your dealer. But as smakb said determine what bar is best for you.

We're looking into this too for the GXL expected in next few months.

I like the ECB's with silver hammertone, have had a couple of them b4 and they're very strong.
Arb and Tjm will not do hammertone, apparently.
(I have not seen a 150 with an ECB so if anyone in Brissie has one, I'd appreciate a gander)

At this stage though, would probably go with original Toyota bar if ECB looks too odd.
A concern though is the lack of clearance that the genuine 120 series has, between hoops and headlight/guard.
My brother has a 120 and you can't even fit your fingers between the bar and the body - pretty much counter-productive exercise in my book. If the genuine 150 bar is the same then back to square one.

Hopefully, Toyota will have a 150 with genuine bar at the caravan show in Brissie this weekend, so I can check it out.

Anyway, plenty of time til the new chariot arrives,

            Ciao.

Yes I have thanks Craig. I'd like to see the side view properly. The plastic between the bar and the headlight looks a little sus.
Also, it appears the hoops are lower than the genuine one and may impede the headlight beams. Seeing one in the flesh will ease my concerns.

Ok, we went to the ECB stand at the caravan and camping show yesterday. They convinced me there are no beam issues and also that the original bumper plastic is retained between bar and headlight (so no painting issues). We will go with the ECB, Big Tube, at $2200 fitted. The hammertone will match the Graphite colour beautifully. (supporting a local company is a bonus.)

I have been looking at Bars and have decided to go for a Smartbar. I have done a lot of off road driving and have hit a couple of roos and pigs over the years. I have never hit anything hard enough to do too much damage. It comes down to driving within the conditions of the road or track. The genuine bar looks a bit like dame Edna’s glasses.

You drive a 120 series Prado and your brother drivers a 3rd gen 4runner? I didn't know that they were sold along side each other in any Toyota market.
