That is rather a cool spot there smakb. You might want to do something a little more secure in relation to the mic. Looks like it would bump and rattle like mad where it is. Is there any trouble accessing the mic with the steering wheel?
rediedj, if you search through the 120 section Accessories forum and look through the posts (probably need to go back a long way you will find an abundance of info on different ways to mount them. The question should be what sort are you loking at mounting. There are some where people have removed the double DIN stero and repolaced with a single DIN and UHF, underneath the center console (ie below the handbrake), inside the center console storage, in the glove box, above the left drivers kick board, beneath the seat, etc...

No problems with the mic, does not rattle at all. I was going to mount the mic somewhere but it stayed in place even over rough tracks so I left it in place. I have not found it to be a problem with accessing it, but it does make the cord a bit short if the passenger wants to use the radio.

I did have - 2010 GXL D4D Auto, ARB bullbar, rails, sliders, winch, 40mm lift, Brown Davis bash plates and long range tank
speaker facing down. i can hear everything pretty good.
i had to drill holes for the co-ax and the power. i did this to get the unit to sit as far back as possible, as i have the compressor and locker switches below, and the pyro gauge next to them.

I have one of the older larger style units. I installed it in my console. It is out of sight and the mic just sits in the drink holder when I am using it regularly. I have run an extension speaker under the drivers side dash as with the console closed it can be difficult to hear the speaker.

I made the same job, with additional speaker.
nice not to see the radio, during daily on road using.
