Cos it just sounds no right. When every time I start the engine no noise at all. However, when I give accelerator a couple of times pressing,it happens till I turn the engine off :-(
I dont understand........ why is the mechanic checking to see if things are loose, a noisey bearing will not be loose, however the bearing may sieze up, if it does, it will throw all your belts off. When the motor is running, turn on your A/C, an see if the pitch of the noise changes, if it does, you have found the problem, I would then advise you to remove the belt for the A/C, the engine will once again be quiet, and then when you have enough $$$$$ replace the A/C compressor.

Thanks mate! Really appreciate your suggestion. I found a video from Youtube. It is a belt dressing product promotion. However, it shows the same noise I found in my car. I would like to try one. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqFDMC5jqFE
      What do you think?

If that is the noise, just try some belt grip spray, all automotive suppliers will have this.

Get some of this stuff and use on belts. Works a treat. Its what we use in the trade and its not messy like the sprays.

With the grip spray stuff I don't think your suppose to spray it on moving belts (while engine is running). Just check the directions.

It says 'Yes' I have to turn the engine on while spray it. I've double checked the YOUTUBE clips they told the same thing...

It sounds like I might have the same problem. I talked to a Toyota mechanic and he reckons it might be one of the idler pulleys. First step will be to remove the drive belt and start the engine to see if the noise is still there.
Can anybody tell me where the tension adjuster is to remove the belt. Also a drive belt diagram so I can put it back on.

hi, Ive had the same problem with my 1997 prado ,after pulling all the belts off it turned out to be the aircon adjuster pully starting to sieze up. the adjuster bolt is underneth the pully so you have to remove the bash plates to see it, (first loosen off the centre bolt). You can pick up a new bearing at repco quite cheap .dave
