  • Long Range Fuel Tank

I just spoke to Brown Davis Automotive who are developing a 160L replacement rear tank for the 150 series Prado. Apparently they need someone in Victoria that is interested in order to finalise the product:

    Hello Peterpilot

Sound wonderful about the tank if that re-places the rear tank then maybe one day they mite replace the front tank with a water tank instead. Can not wait to see the tank on a vehicle to see how low it hangs down from the car.

Has anyone got one of these? I would like to see how low it hangs and what is the capacity.

Could be interested, will give them a call bearing in mind BD do not have a very good reputation for tank reliability, ie many tales of cracks and leaking??

They used my car for the gearbox and transfer case plates and charged me not a lot less than full retail. Needless to say I was not very impressed.

Will let everyone know how I go. The LRA tank for the 150 is about $1200 + fitting and it is 136 L

Their reputation for fuel tanks is not the best, but the local 4x4 shop uses them on their own cars and stated the the reports of issues are all very old. They have no issues so I thought I would give it some thought.

Had a LRA 140 litre tank in my Hilux workmate petrol ute. Tough as, took some big hits and no cracks or leaks. Fuel gauge set up ok also.

                  Bernie,

I contacted longranger a few weeks ago about the water tank setup for the 150 and they said they currently don't make one and won't be for the near future.

Maybe if enough people enquire or show interests they might look to develop one.

                  Cheers

                  Dave

No, sorry I don't. My original post is now over 12 months old so I don't remember who I spoke to. I would have thought someone at Brown Davis on the above contact number would be able to assist.

Brown Davis just replied to an email I sent them last week. Price is $1,161.39 and it holds 160lt. Long Range Automotive's tank is 136LT, but without seeing them next to each other it is hard to say if this is better or worse, as the extra 24lt may come at the expense of ground clearance.

160LT + 87LT in front tank = 247LT. That would get you just about anywhere

I would love to see one fitted to see how the ground clearance looks. I will email back and see if they have any photos.

I can't comment as haven't seen the Brown Davis tank. But the LRA tank has oodles of clearance: more than the standard tank.

Their is oodles of room under the back of the car, i am sure toyota could have done at least a 90ltr tank under the back, but i am sure it was about GVM with the fat cat 150. Come to think of it has anyone looked under the back of a 150 is it similiar to the 120, would the 120 tank fit???

                            It's all about GVM.

It always surprises me that the carrying capacity of the 150 and 200 is almost the same.

Doesn't leave much room for anything after adding bullbar, rear bar (+second spare) and long range tank.

How does this affect the trip computer 'distance to empty'? Is there a way to reprogramme the computer to take into account the additional capacity? Do the overseas models have different sized tanks?

                              Thanks.
