G'day Everyone,

Here's my rig build that I've been working on for the last two months. Full details are in my sig but here are a few pics...

First stop after picking up the car... new tyres.

Now to add a couple of rear power sockets to run off the Aux battery. The lower one is an Engel socket, the upper one is a normal 12V Cigarette socket and I also wired the inverter to permanent 12V on the Aux battery.


Detail shot of the Luggage Hooks that I bought from Pelican Parts (many thanks to the other Pradopoint Members for this tip).


Fused distribution block for the rear power sockets is hidden in the rear LHS storage area.


Override switch for the SBi12. This one doubles as a switch and and indicator in one!

Time for the Navigation and stereo upgrade... Alpine touchscreen Nav/DVD/iPod etc...




Also added a second screen for a new front facing camera.

Major body upgrade with new ARB Deluxe bar, Safari Snorkel and Lightforce 240 XGT's (HID Upgrade). (also did high beam HID upgrade at the same time)


Also added Rhino Rack Pioneer Alloy Platform and Foxwing Awning.



That's it for now. The wishlist is still long...

* Bilstein / Lovell replacemnt suspension (can't go with lift kit of it wont fit under the garage door)
* Winch / Synthetic rope (most likely go with the Avenger Mako 9500 after it's strong review in the recent 4WD Action comparo).
* Front ARB Air locker.
* Rear Work light/s.
* Rear camp table integrated onto inside of the rear door. (look like a great DIY project).
* Overhead roof mount DVD Screen/s.
* Front aftermarket recovery points (Outback Ideas)

Great looking rig mate. I should've bought a VX!!! Just wondering how you fitted the Lightforce to the ARB bar. They only have 100mm bolts and the bar has 12-14mm holes. My HID Genesis seemed to move around in the hole a little unless they were REALLY tight. Interested to hear how you mounted them.

I used the existing holes to mount the lights and once they are tight, they are rock solid. No movement at all.

Nice looking Rig. Do the steering wheel audio controls work with the alpine system (including the voice control ) ? Also, do you have the model numbers for both the Alpine units and the camera?

The main head unit is the IVAW520EBT + NVEM300P nav module. The lower screen is a TMES370 and the camera is a HCEC105. The TMES370 is not available any more ( I had it left over from a previous installation).

I'm using the Alpine Steering Wheel Interface SWCC10, and I get all functions except for phone buttons and voice commands. There is a more expensive interface available from PAC called an SWI-RC which will allow the phone buttons to work, but not sure about the voice commands.

A complete fascia kit is available to allow fitting of the aftermarket head unit and it suits the GXL and VX model 150 series. The kit includes a storage pocket that goes where the OEM head unit was. It has a retractable lid I removed and replaced with the lower screen, so I still have use of the storage area behind the screen.

i am interested in were you bought and had the screens fitted , i am just starting to do some research and was looking at an esclipse dvd/gps unit , but havent seen anyone that has this unit on the forum? i also like the option of the second screen , as i have a glx i would have to get the gx storage box to replace the old stereo

Hi Noahboy,

I had the head unit and fascia kit fitted at Alberts in Morley. The guys there are very helpful and knowledgable. I fitted everything else myself. I had most of the gear from our previous car but the guys at Alberts Morley sell both brands so you can see them in action. Personally I think the Alpine unit outperforms the Eclipse unit in sound quality, screen resolution and ease of use. It also works much better with iPhones.

They can source the storage box as it comes with the fascia kit and brackets for the new head unit. It's not a particularly cheap solution but it is much better than the factory system and worth doing.
