  • Sovereign Bar / Winch fitting

    Hi
If I want to fit a winch to the sovereign bar do I really need to remove the bar from the car to fit the winch / cradle?
I'm thinking of the 12000ib Tigerz

Yes I did. Not really possible to sort it all out properly. From memory Chippy might have done it with the bar on, but he is old four feet tall with hands like a garden gnome..

      Hi,

Yes, you have to remove all the front mounting bolts for the bull to fit the winch
      mounting bracket.

      Cheers

It's OK cos Toyota have to remove the bar to do some work so they are fitting the cradle but does the winch have to be fitted then as well or can that be fitted with the bar on the car?

Thanks for that, I was going to wait until the 4wd show in Brissie to see if I could get a bargain on the winch but I guess it's easier to get it now and fit it when Toyota have the bar off next week.

Anyone know if it's easy fitting Tigerz winch?

will be the same as fitting any other winch, not to bad just takes a little time and you have to work out where you want to put the control box. cheers samo

And I reckon I wont have much time as Toyota will get the bar off, do what they need to do and then get it back on.
I wonder if I can fit the winch to the bracket prior to the bar coming off so it's just a matter of screwing bracket to bar?
                Any idea Samo?

                  Pretty easy solution Kev,

How about you get a quote from the Toyota dealer to fit the new winch for you, while the bar is off and the bracket mods are being done ?

                  Regards,

Re: Sovereign Bar / Winch fitting

Might be worth noting that when I took my 120 to Toyota for the recent Sovereign bar recall issued by Toyota, they had to order additional brackets so as to allow for the winch. (All at no charge). Check also that the fairlead sold with the winch fits the bar. I understand that the Toyota fairleads to suit the Sovereign bar are hard to obtain and about $150 plus.

I have the new bracket (cradle) but I read somewhere I have to grind it down a bit for the Tigerz winch to fit. Seems like hard work to me

For anyone considering adding a winch to their sovereign bar....

I had the recall done for the Bull Bar mounting brackets.
Got the factory winch cradle installed at the same time
Ordered a 12000 pound Tigerz 11 with rope
Purchesed an offset hawse for 55 bucks from a 4wd expo
Installed it with a little help from my brother and a few 'bench presses' of a 23kg winch under the car
                          Wired the little puppy up.

For anyone speculating about having to remove the bar, it was a very simple task to add the winch with the bar on and i completed it mostly by myself in under 1.5 hours.
