My advise is to never use the Ryco fuel filters. Best to stick to the genuine Toyota fuel filters and that includes the one inbetween the tanks. As you know it is geared up for 2 micron filtration. Now most owners that have owned this engine for a while will know how anal it is. I think, Raco and Fleetguard are the only other ones that do the 2 micron filters in this area outside of Toyota. Correct me if I am wrong and the Racor filter is designed for their unit. To do with the oil filters, I would stick to at least Fleetguard for the 1KD-FTV.
I hate Valvoline oils, although they have provided a fair bit of work over the years, rebuilds. If you are talking quality oils, don't include that brand in the list, if you know what I mean. Because I am a polite person I would like to take this opportunity to thank Valvoline for all the work over the years.
How the hell do you get a trade card with Super Cheap, is that a new thing?
Hoffy, can I have your rego, so I don't accidently buy your vehicle.
No, sorry mate, each to their own, the Roo.
G'day mate, i'm running genuine filters changing oil and oil filter every 5k. Had any experince with mobil oil? I'm running delvac esp 15w40 esp is supposed to be good for egr engines (got it at work for a new mack truck) when you say change fuel filter every 10k do you both or just the one between the tanks. I did both at 100k service (bought it with 92k in jan) and done coolant (genuine).
Cheers
I know its a bit of a side topic to oils, but has anyone here used teflon additives, such as SLICK 50, in their engines? Opinions?

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado
I just changed my oil for the first time. Used a fresh Toyota oil filter, sump plug gasket and new Castrol Magnatec diesel oil. Seems to have quitened the engine down as well. Going well..

Yes, each to their own it seems..... I currently have a Ryco Fuel Filter on at the moment as well, its working like a charm. No need for the Rego, we plan on keeping it for a long time! Sounds like you work in the industry Roo, so I'll keep a close eye on your wisdom and experience, and if I ever have engine problems due to oil/filters I'll tell you that you were right, but I'm predicting that in 5 Years I'll be boasting about how well my Prado is running!! Only time will tell....
I've changed the oil in my car with the engine cold (sitting over night) and have noticed the oil filter empty so I'm not sure on the quality of genuine filter anti-drainback valves.

Hi All, was just checking out this thread & I noted,:
The Roo stated he hates Valvoline oils, but does get lots of work from
Places that use it......just had my 09 Gxl D4D serviced at my
Local dealer & they used Valvoline Pro series 10w40 & charged me $91.80
For 6.80 litres. They did'nt change the under bonnet fuel filter, when I questioned
This they said they only change the under body filter??
I am changing Dealers from now on, had other issues b4
Cheers,
Steve J

Hey steve is that the same dealer that you asked to flush your trans?
Yep the very same, all part of the same service.
It's my own fault for going back there, I've had a few complaints,
But I thought they would have changed after a break from them,
I've given them another chance but they failed.
Customer service dept & finance depts also poor.

Anyone out there using Castrol RX Super in their D4D motors? If so are you happy with results? I use RX Super in my 5L motor in my Hilux and am very happy with it.
Seems an overcharge...... but in reality it's part of their profit making. If you take your own oil, they'll charge you more for something else to make up for their profit-loss structure, or keep your oil and wack in the cheapest they have which may not be as good as yours.........do yourself a big favour and stop paying for unsupervised TMC apprentices servicing your car at $200 x hour, find a good private mechanic and he'll do a QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL JOB at $100-120 x hr, and "the buck stops with him"............even if car is brand new, you're legally entitled to allow a Qualified registered Business private mechanic to service your car/Prado/whatever.......he may or may not also charge you a little more than what you can buy the oil for............but that's how it all works if you want warranty.
