  • Hi guys,
Just got a complete set of led interior lights from Jaycar.
    Total cost was approx. $32.00
2 led bulb replacements for driver and passenger, and 2 led panel lights for rear passengers and cargo area.
What a difference, and like all jaycar stuff you can take it back if it's faulty.

    • Once you know it's straightforward, the photos below may help with the map light replacement. I had to be very careful to not mark the plastic surround with the screw driver and to get some leverage I depressed the switch (cover) so the front tipped down below the level of the surround. It fipped out readily one side at a time. I struggled to get a grasp on the bulb and erroneously twisted it and detached the "socket" from its base so it partially disappeared up into the roof so it was harder to grasp. However using rubber gloves (no pliers, too heavy handed and was frightened of shattering the bulb) I positioned the socket back into the base rotating anticlockwise. It didn't seat properly but gave me sufficient surface area of the bulb to pull down. Once the bulb was out I could use the screwdriver to slide or rotate the socket into the correct position in the base. The other side was dead easy and done in less than a minute or two. Knowledge is a wonderful thing. Thanks for all the comments and advice from the previous posts.

This may have already been answered, or this idea used, but I put a bit of 10mm heat shrink on the globe, turned the lights on for a bit, till the heat shrink shrunk, let it cool then pulled out globe with pointy nose pliers, easy really

          • Changed all my globes to LED's today, had LED's in the previous 120. A very useful and cheap addition to the 150. I used a small paint scraper wrapped in a piece of cloth to remove all the covers, very easy and no damage.

I did the same, replaced all the globes in my 150 with LEDs....and all was good until the LED array in the rear cargo bay area worked loose and fell slighly forward änd came into contact with the light lens cover, and it melted and caught fire....and if I had not quickly put it out who knows what damage it would ahve done...and I can't buy another lens cover as a single item, you can only get the whole light assembly .. $$$$...and I understandthat had it really done more damage, insurance would not cover the damage as it is a non-approved modification....be careful folks.. I love the other LEDs, but now I have no rear cargo bay light...but it could easily have been worse...I'll post some pics soon

              • I have just noticed that two of my door lights (from the led lad) have started to flicker. I've opened the lens and is just some of the LEDs in the unit that are flickering, some are maintaining full brightness,

                Ideas??

possibly cheap chinese LEDs...there is quite a bit of vibration associated with operning and closing the doors, so that can shake the LEDs around a bit.

                  • Hi, being a new Prado 150 owner, I read up on the LED replacements first, here on this site.

Then I read up on how to get the buggers (globes) out.

I have a GXL and approached the map light assembly with care, pulled down at the end closest the windscreen, then the other, it all popped off.

When this is down, the map lights have a twist fitting, the globe then simply pulls out.

Once I knew how, it takes about a minute to do both sides.

                    • Hey guys, anyone had any luck with getting gear from LED Kits Australia?

                      Comment

                      • I gave up on expensive kits and options... found these on eBay - Australian seller and was delivered in 3 days.
                        - [Map Lights] http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111214921367
                        - [Dome Lights] http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121118284177

The Map Lights are OK, would say about 30% brighter than the OEM globes - but very happy with them. Was thinking that while driving and my partner switches the map-light on next to me I do not want to be blinded.

The 36-led panels... WoW... I am impressed!
                        - There is enough space for 2 x 36 panels in the space, but that would be totally overkill.

                        • Hi there 2016 GXL owner here and wanting to upgrade my cabin lights to leds too. I can get the plastic diffuser off easily but getting the bulbs out is another story. I have read this thread and maybe I have missed it but nobody has specifically stated actually actually how to get the bulb out. Does anybody know if it's a twisting action, just pull out or something else.

Even an Opposite Lock installer putting my spotties on couldn't get the bulbs out. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: all sorted. They are pullouts, no screwing or pushing in and twisting. I ended up using long nose pliers to just prise/leverage them out. It was pretty hard and they flick out across the floor

I tried electrical tape but no luck. Prying them out with long nose pliers was my last resort

                              • Has anyone taken the whole light assembly out of the head lining before?

I bought some LED lights though having problems fitting them (they seem about 1mm too long)

If I could get the unit out of the head liner I should be able to fit them, just don't want to cause damage.

                                Cheers
