Holy cripes, that is crazy that both struts snapped!
Can you confirm these were 712 struts from Autocraft?
I'm with Photoprado, can you elaborate on how this happened?

What would cause this breakage? Given the short extended length of the 712's and the weakest rebound valving of all the Bilstein struts in Whitey's Bilstein encyclopaedia, would the problem have been excessive topping out?[B][COLOR=blue]Bitumen: A blatant waste of taxpayers money![/COLOR][/B]

Just to clarify, do you mean 80K = 80,000km??

For stock suspension, yep.
Billies should last way longer for nomal road conditions. I ran billies in a country rep car, 300,000km and good as new at the end. 300,000km on any kind of suspension is exceptional!
For the record, one of my 712 struts karked it after 40,000km.
Bilstein monotubes should theoretically never lose their valving due to the floating piston design, but if it is impacted, strut will be dead pronto.
Twin tubes I would be changing after no more than 80,000km however, as they contain springs which temper/soften over time and the valving will reduce, something like at least 30% reductions in valving forces.

Now you know why I am SO disappointed in my Prado Billies.
The car after that one was a city car, couldn't get Billies for it, went Koni. Too soft. Took them into topperformance and Bastien rebuilt them for me with sport valving. Car was gutless, but the suspension was really good after that. Bastien was an ex F1 mechanic.2008 D4D M6 GXL [MT ATZ-P3][Whitey's Ironman 45710FE/45682FE+KTFR101H/Dob487][extended Roadsafe links][Polyairs][DBA T3/T2][amts diffdrop & recovery points][Tin175's stone guards][Bushskins BashPlate][ARB Sahara][IPF 900s][Snorkel][WindCheetah][MaxTrax][IC-440][Parrot Asteroid][ARB Fridge][Lifestyle 2nd Row Fridge Mount][ARB Compressor][Thumper][SandGrabbers][Cargo Barrier][Tigerz Awning][MCC Rear Bar]
