  • emmetryan,
If money is an issue, the cheapest way to get a lift in your Grande is to retain the original Toyota TEMS shocks and just replace the front springs with 30mm to 35mm raised springs. The rear can be adjusted up by using 10mm spacers under the chassis mounted sensor brackets, or any competent workshop can adjust the rear sensors by 10mm to achieve a 30mm rear lift. Aim for a ride height of 780-785mm front and 800-810mm rear when measured from bottom of rim to guard and you'll be within limits for the standard shocks. This is providing you don't need new shocks.

I understand that you can't do the work yourself, so I suggest you go to your nearest Opposite Lock dealer and ask them for a quote. If your local Opposite Lock doesn't know how to tweak the Grande rear air springs (air bags), get them to call Opposite Lock Sydney South and ask Gordon.

If you need to replace the shocks, then make sure your rear shocks are less than 580-585mm extended length or you will need to do something to stop the air bags from dislodging from the bottom spring perch. Shock specifications can be found here: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...nsion-Database

    • thanks so much for the advice! i sent craigm a message so if possible meeting up and trying to organise the airbag mod + a lift on the front will probably be the best idea as I like saving money just out of curiosity, what would be the best possible suspension option? (i.e in the hypothetical world where money grew on tress)

      • Hello again everyone,

Troy here from cold canberra lol. I have been having a good read of everything on here and there is a lot of useful information. The problem i seem to have with suspension places here is everyone is willing to have a crack at it, replacing rear air bags with extended, front shocks and springs and rear shocks. Although them seem to have not much knowledge about adjusting the self leveling sensors, which worrys me. Any advice anyone? Also is it necessary put new extended air bags in the rear with a 40-50mm/2" lift? Some people have seemed not to do it, and put some sort of pin to stop air bag from coming out? is this ideal? or extended a much better option?

There are lots of people on here with some much practical knowledge, thanks in advance :-)

          • sensor height adjustment spacer is shown here

Basically, space the height sensor bracket away from the chassis using washers.

            • I have a 03 grande (I have read the entire thread but might have missed this scenario being covered)
I am happy with the rear standard height of 800mm
Can I fit raised shocks and springs to the front and a standard Length shock to the rear??
I don't want to do the rear air bag tweak as I am happy with the height and with the front sitting at 710mm think it would level it up nicely.

              • Certainly can just replace shocks. No probs with that.

                • You can fit any of the components that fits the other grade Prados onto the Grande if you are retaining the rear airbags. What have you got installed at the front? Mayeb all you need are the standard height King springs.

                  • Well up front is factory alloy bar, dual batts, spotties but up top is steel cage and awning and lightbar.
Would I still need to retain the rear airbags even with a standard length after market shock.

                    • Not sure what you mean but the rear airbags hold up the rear end. If you remove them, you'll need to replace it with aftermarket airbags or coils.

                      • Haha sorry when you said retain I thought you meant using one off the methods spoken about to stop the airbags popping out.

                        • I see. I don't believe that there are aftermarket shocks specifically for standard height. The shocks sold for the usual 2" lift will be fine.

I don't believe airbag retention at the bottom is required for standard height. All the issues I know of has been with lifted Grande.

                            Yes.

I think, You would just like to get The front back to 750-760mm 770mm?
If on medium height you are at 800mm, I suggest setting front to 770mm.

Air bag retention not usually required UNTILL you tweak the rear and/or add longer travel.

There are aftermarket shocks for standard height & travel.

So is the rear shock the only thing that limits down travel.
I have looked through the rear shock database lengths but can't see a shock on there with the same open/close lengths as the standard tems shock.
Ultimately I am asking could I fit 40-50mm raised shocks to standard non tweaked airbags
