  • Grande 120 Suspension Upgrade

Just a quick note to say thanks to Team Piggy for all the assistance in tracking down a quality fitter of a suspension upgrade (2" inch approx). It was done very professionally and the only functionality lost was the ride selection functionality with the rear lowering and raising still functional.

Anyone in SA interested should contact Darren at Total Traction Tyres in Lonsdale. (sorry if this breaks any rules)

The upgrade uses Bilstein shocks and easy rider coils on the front with Bilstein shocks on the rear. Important note for the do-it-yourselfers: The air bags are welded to prevent pop out in extreme travel and other mods which I am not familiar with.

Darren's going to start to wonder whats going on, all these PP vehicles rocking up at his shop for a lift!
TP recommended him to me also last time i was home, just before the Goolwa trip...

Lift looks pretty good mate, mind if i ask what the measurements were and are now?

I wrote the measurements down and will post tonight if I remember. Have you managed to get out of that wedding yet? You are expected to show up on the March long weekend, wedding or not!

        Re: Grande 120 Suspension Upgrade

        hello prado peeps i was waiting to post my grande lift results buit i lost my phone [consequently photo s] i lifted my grande about 50 mm all round with snake racing 25mm strut top spacers .Rear air bag trick or adjustment which im hoping shoudlnt pose a problem as normal setting now equals old high setting and a slight mod to wiring harness bracket at strut top .Still have ride control, still have height control although not required off road now ,low setting now equals norm. I swapped the struts left to right so that the adjuster still faced the rear because the spacer requires rotating the strut 180 degrees unless you want to compress the spring .hostile takeover of thead here sorry.nonetheless result is sweeet 50mm plus lift all factory trickery remains and hopefully there shouldnt be an airbag retention problem as standard height now only equals the old recomended offroad setting . sorry pointers no photos and to much of a newb to start his own thread {especially without photos}

            Matt
            Measurements:
Were 87cm front, 94cm rear. The front was a real problem with the added extras
Now 93cm front, 97cm rear (99.5cm with height control activated)
Change 6cm front, 3cm rear (or 5.5cm with height control on)

Slunt, no probs, good to hear a diff attack on a problem.

MLC - how has the rear been raised if only the shocks have changed?

The Grande has height adjustment for the rear. The normal height has been tweaked to the new height by adjusting something. I'd like to know where this is. There was a thread on it but a picture would be nice.

Thanks for the measurements Rob, curious as to where you are taking for mesurements from though?
Have you gone from concrete to bottom of wheel arch, or bottom of rim to bottom of wheel arch?

Cos your heights are massive compared to mine!

Concrete to bottom of wheel arch. Tyres at medium pressure. If it helps, concete to centre of whel is 38cm.

Suspension measurements on PP are usually taken from bottom of rim to top of wheel arch.

Thanks MLC... My Grande measurements were 800mm before and after Bilsteins fitted at rear. You may have had something done to get an extra 15mm. I was recommended against any further rear lift to keep the Bilsteins operating within their range, so was interested in what you had done.

BTW,for rear you said 30mm lift from concrete now you say 15mm lift from rim (assuming your Grande was same as mine, ie 800mm from rim prior to lift, did you measure yours prior?), if no change in tyres there is a variable not accounted for. Are you sure there is any rear lift at all?

                              Re: Grande 120 Suspension Upgrade

Just as an aside, rear lifting a Grande was not high on my priority list because a standard Grande is as high in the rear as a lifted non-Grande in most cases (and that's without the additional height obtainable from the airbags in "high" setting). GXL owners have to lift to get 800mm in the rear while that is standard on the Grande.

BTW: I've noted shocker knocks during some serious 4wding in "high" with the Bilsteins so now I'm very cautious of using "high" unless absolutely necessary. Don't select "high" unless you really need it would be my recommendation, or you may damage those beautiful Bilsteins.

The shocker knocks have happened while "landing" after going over a bump, so I believe they are a case of the shocker running out of travel. Beware.

                              Cheers, ld
