  • Thanks for that info Marc I might go down that path(ToughDog Adjustable) to start with and see whether I can go that extra bit to copy what Craig have done!!! to retain the bags..
That way If I can't do anything to retain the bags I know my setup is still very usable...

Friend of mine offered to help me out and the plan is to tackle it ourselves....
He's confident to get the rest done but reckons adjusting the sensor could be tricky!!

I'll yell out for help when time comes !!!

      No worries.
The rear is the easiest, the whole job on the rear should take 45 minutes.
Spacing the sensors is 5 minutes worth.
      REALLY, its easy. :-)
Just be gentle with them and dont let them hang down, keep them supported while spacing them.
Turn the auto leveling off before you start and when finished, cycle up and down a few time till it settles.

      The spacers

      • Actually its the front that takes a little more time.
Thats only because of the stepper motors that have to be removed from the top of the shocks first.
Drag the cables and plugs (for the ride adjust) into the engine bay, seal them up if you want and cable tie them somewhere secure
After that, its the same as any other.

        • Much appreciate that summary with the pics Marc!!! Now just a matter of getting prices sorted out and ordering the parts....

Just want to confirm which coil you used? Comfort/Medium ?
I'm thinking Heavy load for mine... coz mine is very saggy at the moment and still got AMTS plates to go in...

And it seems like I'm going to save heaps compare to the Auto-Craft quote as well.. In other words I might get a radio in time for the X'mas !!!

          • Front Struts: BM404400
Front Springs: TDC974H these are the heavy 800lb springs, rides great.
            Rear Shocks: BM401116

            No rear springs obviously ;-)

What I used for spacing the sensor brackets HT bolts from SCA, packet of 4, 8mm X 30mm long if you use approx 10mm spacing Guard washers (panel washers) 8mm ID X 35-40mm OD X 1.5 thick, but any washers will do and use 222 loctite or similar on the bolts.

The only thing you have to be very careful of is not to over stress or break and ABS sensor wire or you will be in strife (front).
Make sure you give them plenty of slack before dropping the lower control arms.
But that applies to any with ABS.

This is what I'm planning to get Marc... It feels better when you have already tested the lot....

                  • Can someone provide pictures of the auto levelling valves (aftermarket from say airbag man or ultimate suspension) on a 120 series in particular on the passenger side behind the fuel tank? The rear coils have been replaced with airbags from the airbag man. However we are trying to find a spot to mount the height adjustment valve. Toyota uses smaller valves.

Any help would be much appreciated and if the photos could be posted today or tomorrow that would be even better so I can supply them to shop that is fitting my suspension.

The Grande does not have any valves (external points) as its a complete integrated system with built in compressor and electronic self leveling and height adjust. You dont pump them up or release air manually.

Ive seen Airbagman and Polyair valves placed behind the little cap in the centre of the top of the bumper (where the overseas model lets the spare down from).

Hope thats what your referring too.

Ahh... so the AirBagMan bags aren't self-levelling, then.

They are on the Grande because you already have the Toyo self leveling, your just changing Toyo bags for Airman bags, the rest doesnt change.
The leveling system does not care about the brand of airbag, it just sets a height based on the voltage output from a sensor.

So, Airbag man bag conversion in a standard car wont have self leveling, just gives you air suspension that you can manually adjust.

I got the self leveling kit with manual over ride. Its just minimal space to mount the valve behind the fuel tank.
