        • William,

Just read your earlier post referring to fitting of a genuine towbar & harness. I'm trying to fit a genuine towbar harness but cannot figure out how to access the grommets that need to be removed to install the harness. I figured I would remove the LHS rear cargo trim and install a heavy duty cable from the dual battery at the same time. But to do this, following the instructions that came with the loom, I need to remove the trim along the bottom of the rear tailgate first, which is where I'm having trouble. Maybe I'm just being too gentle?

Anyhow, any tips on how you installed the loom would be much appreciated.

          Cheers,

          David.

              Gday Dave,

I remember posting something about the towbar and dual battery wiring in the build thread. Anyway, it was a while ago but I'll try to answer your question the best i can....

I firstly removed the 3rd row seats (completely) and then rear quarter panel (partially - just enough to fit my hands through to do the wiring and feed the wiring through the grommet).

You do have to use a bit of force to get the clips to come loose. From memory the trim you speak of (trim along the bottom of the tailgate) is held in by clips. My tip to you would be to use firm pressure to the point you think it'll break (that's when the clips will pop off).

Installing the loom itself was a pain in the a$s. Though, I'll give you a tip for the dual battery wiring - use an electricians tongue to feed the wiring through.

              Hope this helps.

              Cheers

              • Thanks William. I got it all apart in the end. The Toyota instructions that came with the loom are not very clear & some steps not in the correct order!

Threading the loom through was not so bad. Now I've just got to get the grommets properly seated. The top one was OK, but with the chassis rail only just below the bottom one it's a complete PITA! Anyway, decided to call it quits for the night & hopefully will fisnish it tomorrow.

                Cheers,

                David.

                • It's almost that time now to let go of my pride and joy. Just wanted to thank everyone for their input and contribution towards this great forum. I've certainly learnt a lot from you and I hope I have provided some of you with some knowledge throughout this buildup.

As sad as it sounds, the Prado will be put up for sale in about a months time as I have ordered an FJ cruiser to replace it. Over the next few weeks I will be stripping a few accessories off it to transfer to the FJ cruiser.

The parts that don't fit on the FJ will be sold on this forum first and if unsuccessful will be auctioned off on eBay. Accessories will be on sale once I get them off the vehicle and figure out pricing on them. Quite open to reasonable offers via PM at the moment (unreasonable offers will not receive a reply). I'm currently thinking of selling the below:

                  - Steinbauer power chip. I believe it is still under warranty. Will have to check the receipt later. I can also provide an installation guide. Willing to package this with my Redback 3" exhaust (inc 3" dump pipe) if you're willing to arrange a swap with your stock exhaust and top up the difference.

                  - Thule aero roof bars (set of two).

                  - Genuine Toyota alloy roof tray (rebranded rhino rack).

                  - Home made drawer with ARB fridge slide. I can help fit it. Takes about 5 minutes.

                  - Speedy Wheels Chariot rims (4 used with 1 new in box never used). These will likely come with a set of 4 BFG A/T with Approx 80,000kms used on them.

                  - Magnum 9K (by Warn) winch with cable. Already taken out. Depends on what price I get on it but I might just keep it for the FJ.

For more details just flick through the build up thread. It will give you an idea of when I fitted them on. I take real good care of my stuff so even though it's used goods they're all in excellent condition.

Due to the size and weight of the items, I don't plan on posting any items. However, I will be happy to post the Steinbauer module. I'm based in point cook but can arrange for drop off on the eastern suburbs as I often head that way.

Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up before I post them up in the weeks to come.

                  Cheers
                  Will

                  • Hi all,

I've posted the following up for sale:

                    - Steinbauer Power Chip: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...er-Chip-850ono

                    - Thule Aerobars mounted to a Genuine Toyota Alloy Tray: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...f-Tray-550-ono

                    - Drawer and fridge slide: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...B-fridge-slide

                    - Kaymar wheel spacer and light mount bracket: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ght-pole-mount

I've decided not to sell the Speedy rims as they will go onto the FJ. Happy to let go of the Magnum winch for $500. All bolts fairlead and wiring included. Will have to take a pic of it later. Or I might just chuck it in the FJ when I get a bar sorted for it.

On the topic of FJ, I've paid a visit to Autocraft and got a lift kit. Installed tow bar and rock rails last week. KM2s are going on tomorrow. Gotta sell these Prado parts to keep the project going! Here it what is looked like last week next to the Prado. Huge list of mods to follow....

                    • Sorry to see your 150 go also William. I've enjoyed watching your build over the last 3 years. At least you're going to another Toyota.

                      Enjoy the V6 Power!!!

                      • Thanks Craig! Learnt so much here, doing up the FJ will be easy.

Funny you say that! My right foot is too used to the turbo lag of the Prado. Doesn't help the back pocket driving the V6 like I did the prado. Averaging 13lt/100km on 98octane ($1.75/lt) hahaha. That's mostly peak hour and city driving though. In the same conditions the prado would do 10.5lt/100km with the steinbauer in. Prado has more torque and according to the seat of my pants feeling I reckon it gets off the line better than the FJ. Once the FJ gets going tho, it flies. Haha. Might post some pics up here later if the mods don't mind.
