Hi To All,
I thought I would share with those interested my build up. As it's my first Prado after moving over from the dark side of Nissan Patrols-ville, I have been busy the last couple of months learning a lot from my fellow forum dwellers and from doing most of the work shown below myself.
The only mods I haven't fitted to the car myself have been the TJM Bullbar, Hayman Reese T/Bar and Airtek Snorkel. After a lot of thought, I went for a black bar as I couldn't see myself being happy in a few year's time if I had a white bar covered in stone chips.
I went for a remote head GME3420 UHF. Again, after lots of thought about how I use the UHF while on trips, I decided this arrangement as being best for me - one where I can access the volume control really easily. I experimented with the head unit, placing it in various locations around the cabin. Decided that the leading edge of the radio framework was good for us. I can't place a 600ml drink in the cup holders now, but that's not a deal breaker for me.
When I had half the dash apart to install the UHF, I decided to keep dismantling and installed the 'Camera On Anytime' modification. Congratulations to those who devised this. It's really simple to do and a great feature. I can now see my Aussie Swag camper as I go down the road/track. It's really cool.
In the rear of the car, I have installed a couple of merit plugs and an Engel fridge socket, all running through a Baintech Amp/Volt meter. When we go on longer trips, we have a 110 Ltr Waeco fridge in the camper trailer and run a 40Ltr Engel in the back of the car as a freezer. The meter is going to be a useful tool to keep an eye on the health of the dual battery. The little black button is a push-switch for the meter's backlight.
Just a photo of in behind the switch. I took the time to run each plug through it's own fuse.
To supply power to the rear compartment, I have installed a Redarc BCDC 1220 DC to DC charger, connected to Remco RM12-100DC 100Amp battery.
I have also installed the Tekonsha P3, XRay driving lights and Couplertec system along the way. Next on the shopping list is the 2" lift with Polyairs and I'm still trying to talk my wife into letting me have a crack at making some rear storage drawers. As we know, once you pull out those awful rear seats there's no turning back!
Cheers.....Neale.
