  • QLD - Beaudesert to O'Reilly's via Duck Creek Rd - 1st Aug

A couple of friends and I are planning an easy trip to O'Reilly's on Sunday.

Starting at 10am outside the Beaudesert Bakery (13 William St).

We will then proceed out of Beaudesert along Brisbane St -> Kelly Rd -> Duck Creek Rd.

Should arrive at O'Reilly's somewhere around lunchtime I'd guess, where we plan to hang around and do some bird photography / soak up the nature / etc.

Pretty much a nice easy family Sunday drive.

    Usual Pradopoint disclaimers apply.

    Dave,

Would love to go with you but have other commitments. If you haven't been up (or down) Duck Ck Rd before, just be aware that at the bottom last time I went up there was a sign at the gate that stated "This road is impassible in the wet" so if there's been a bit of rain down that way in the past 24 hrs, be prepared for disappointment, or one hellova trip either way!

    Cheers,

Thanks for the tip Dave. We'll definitely watch ourselves then, can always detour further west and go on a completely different adventure if need be ;-)

I would have loved to come along to this however we have decided to go to Hervey Bay for the weekend to visit some friends, we were going to go to Murphy's Creek to check out a campsite but have now settled on Hervey Bay.

Enjoy the drive and I will look forward to some images.

            Hi guys ,
just dont forget the woolies it was 8 degrees at the top a couple of weeks back. Have you thought of checking out the Lost World area its nice, just keep going on Kerry Rd great views and creeks. I was working out there last week with some low cloud in the mountains great spot.

Thanks for the heads-up Ian. I don't know that part of the world much, having previously stuck to the main roads around there. Good to have backup plans in case our chosen route is washed out.

Guy's if it's too slippery to go up Duck Ck Rd, consider heading a little further west and doing the Condamine Gorge - you'll get some muddy road action, but the river crossings will clean under the car for you! Lunch at Queen Mary Falls and home on the blacktop.

Water level at Brosnans Barn this am is 0.50 metres, so there'll be enough water to make it interesting.

Last time I was up that way the water was so low there was a Toyota Aurion in the middle of it all.

                Cheers,

The Condamine Gorge road is DRY WEATHER ROAD only and the council in Killarney (whatever they're called since the amalgamations) have been itching to close this. Any significant damage would see this closed off to all but local traffic. That would be a great loss as it's a beautiful run through along/across the Condamine River.

Can I appeal to all to respect the Road Closed signs/ DRY WEATHER ONLY status?

                              Hi Folks

A nice leisurely start at 10.00 am at the Beaudesert Bakery (try their breads, fantastic), then off down the Kerry Road to our first stop to photograph some Wedge Tailed Eagles, I photographed the photographers and left the birds to the experts.

The road was dry so off we went in standard drive.

Dave lead off with Ross following and us closing the gates.

                              The team.

                              Morning Tea, what a view.

                              O'Reilly's Farm

The Drive through the rainforest at the top of the mountain.

Finally some of the residents at the O'Reilly's campground.

We left the photographers in the forest and headed off down the bitumen, interestingly the GPS told us the quickest way was back down Duck Creek Road and in hindsight after the twisty bitumen road it was probably right.

Thanks to Dave for organising the day and great to meet some new people yet again.

                              Regards, Richo and Gay.
