  • In Dash SAT NAV / Stereo / Phone / double din conversion

Guys this is just one pic of my 2010 150 Prado GXL. I have moved the stereo to the top instead of that useless little screen that you need a microscope to view the camera angle... The conversion is available aftermarket and as you can see its an exact fit and colour match. Moving the stereo up the top allows you to keep your eyes higher and not look away from the road as much - also giving a 7" touch screen for combining Sat Nav, Stereo, CD / DVD, Digital TV (YES i added a Digital TV Tuner!!) Cameras x 2 on a switch, and im sure there is more the unit is capable of that i have not yet found!! OOhhh yes its also connected to the 8.5" screens that are headrests and the rear passengers can view what is on the front screen, or watch their own DVD or TV in the back with wireless headphones........

love the screen, does it do topo mapping?

and which maps does it use for the on-road maps?

      G'day Dan,

Garmin is the software that the Kenwood unit is based on for sat nav, not sure if you can use topo mapping for this unit or not? it just uses a sd card for the maps - so it would be handy to be able to change it over when heading bush!

pics of the phone attachment for you.

      regards

      Bill

        Hi Bill,

A few of us have the earlier Kenwood units, and you can load Oz Topo to the Garmin units.

Have a look at Brian from GPS Oz site. http://www.gpsoz.com.au/oztopo/

I have used this for the past few years and found it to be very reliable.

I've gone and done the same thing with my VX but run the Kenwood 7360 head unit. That one looks like the 7340?
I use Garmin Topo maps and they are awesome.

                    Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on how people are getting aftermarket units to work with Prado 150 GXL and VX? Is it only possible if you tap into the existing CAN BUS? Or has anyone seen an aftermarket CAN BUS?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
                    Kind regards,
                    Matt

                      Looks great Bill.

I was wondering how you wired up the two cameras, was it a two way switch (ie on-off-on) with a piggy-backed rca plug so that you can use the one reverse camera input??
If so what resistance of diode are use using to stop the current going back to the rear camera and reverse light?

Love to hear how its done as im trying to set-up the same for my 120.
                      Cheers

Hi Bill, thanks for all the info thus far. Could you please provide more details with regards to how you hook one of these things up to a 150 GXL? Did it come with some sort of faceplate adapter to fit in the dash as I've seen some models that do.. But those were ones from ebay and had the euro fascia with the emergency lights on the wrong side. Anything you could do clarify the install would be much appreciated.. Thanks mate.
