  • Fuel Gauge - How does it work....?

    Hey people,

I have recently purchased a 150 series GXL T/D. I am kinda new to the site and have tried looking through the other posts but have not been able to find anything about how the fuel gauge works with the sub tank. A mate of mine said he had a 120 series and when it would get down to halfway on the gauge it would then go back up and the sub fuel light would come on. How does it work in the 150 series, i am below a 1/4 tank and no sub light. Is the gauge for the whole 150 litres? Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere else but I was unable to find it.

    Thanks

    G.C

The gauge is for the whole tank. I don't know whether there are two tanks and it's pumped across but you keep going for about 1200 km's and then fill it up. The most I have ever got in the tank when I have only had approx 30km's to empty was approx 128lts.

Thanks for that. I assumed this was the case as there is nothing in the manual about sub tanks and lights. Funny because even the car salesman said it will get to halfway and the shoot back up and the sub tank light will go on. Idiot.....

Re: Fuel Gauge - How does it work....?

Today I had 103 kms left in tank and could only get 129 litres pumped in.
I am currently achieving 9.1 ltrs/100kms around town.
That means I should have about 11 litres still in tank.
        129+11=139 Ltrs. = 11 litres somewhere.
I somehow think there is an automatic "Reserve" in the tank that does not show up on the computer.
Considering the Hassles of running out a Diesel Tank I think Toyota have has some fore thought and reacted.
        Anyone have any other ideas?

I know what you mean ..... 50km left till empty = approx 5 lts ..... tank should take 145 lts but only takes 130 ..... where is the other 15 gone?
