      Wow...what a day.

I guess I got exactly what I asked for Water & lots of mud. I'm glad I only got stuck twice because that water was FREEZING!

Thanks to Simmo, and Kenta for pulling me out of the messes I got into...

Carpet will dry. I'm going to rip it all out this week, and shampoo it dry it, and put it all back in. Should be a fun exercise. I think I learnt my lesson. I WILL STAY out of the water.

Thanks again to Glenn for organising and leading us on such a top day out.

      Cheers

Re: NSW: Sunday July 18th: Newnes State Forest

What a top day out guys, everyone had heaps of fun. Temperature was a mild 6 degrees most of the day but despite that it didn't feel cold at all.
Oscar, my photo of you drowned in that puddle has now taken pride of place on my desktop and my daughter is still rolling around on the floor laughing.
Good to see the newbies Min and Steve enjoyed themselves and Min's popping a flare off hasn't dampened his enthusiasm to come out and do it all again.
Anyway, I've had a shit drive home, thanks to a head on crash on the highway, so I'm off to bed.
Will post up some pics tomorrow night.
        Cheers,
        Dobbo.

Re: NSW: Sunday July 18th: Newnes State Forest

Perfect weather for our trip today with a total of 8 vehicles all up. Great to meet some of the newer PP members too. After introductions & deciding where to go, we aired down & headed off into the forest.

First stop was Happy Valley where Oscar promptly got stuck.

Simmo soon had him out though

The 2nd attempt at the crossing saw Oscar through no problem; amazing what a slightly different line can make :!:

Slippery Hill proved to be just that but we all made it up OK.

From there it was over to the wombat holes as usual 8) Plenty of fun there of course A bit further up the track we came to a familiar looking lake where I drowned my vehicle on the last trip
Plenty of mud for the boys to play in

We then went to the Lost City where minh rightly observed how much better it looked than Campbelltown :P Stopped here for lunch & then traversed some more interesting tracks nearby. Then it was over to the other Lost City track. This is where Oscar had a spot of bother on a rather long puddle; Kenta made it through OK but not so the Parra Power truck

Reminded me of a similar experience I had the other week  I was going to winch him backwards but soon discovered the winch clutch was jammed so Wallaby One came to the rescue with a forward snatch. Took a bit of effort but eventually got Oscar out. We continued on to the end of the track where we stopped to enjoy the scenery & inspect Oscar's vehicle but apart from the UHF radio giving up & a very wet interior, there appeared to be no obvious mechanical problems.

As it was getting on in the day we decided to make our way back to Zig Zag. Jeff & I took a short detour up to Bald Hill trig as I wanted to take a few photos to send to friends in the states. We aired up as the sun went down (& a rapid drop in temperature too).

Thanks to everyone for coming along today, it certainly was eventful :!: Good to meet some of the newer & older members Will catch up again another time for sure

I had the worse run home though. Im buggered. All the way through blue mountains back to M4 was a joke. The traffic was jammed packed and slow!!!.

                Didnt get home until 8pm

Yes I popped a flare but its part of the Prado Point Tour!

Oscar and SImmo thanks for keeping us entertained.

Re: NSW: Sunday July 18th: Newnes State Forest

Had 2 flat rear tyres this morning in the driveway

I cannot find anything obvious on either tyre - but there are some sidewall tears and which may be causing the slow leaks  The tyres generally look like crap now to be honest ops:

I was hoping to get another 10 000km out of my Cooper ATR's but after yesterdays fish-tailing in the mud - and this morning's two dead flat tyres greeting me I think I will shop around today for a set of Cooper ST's.

Most of the boys yesterday seemed to have BF Goodrich - but the Cooper ST's got such a wrap in 4WD Action in that tyre Comparo.

I just have to way up do I get a set of four ST's, and keep the best ATR's as my spare? - or do I go the full hog and get 5 brand new ST's??

I also have a brand new, unused Dunlop Grandrek which I have no idea what to do with?

                  All comments most welcome :?:

For what you do with your business, go for five cooper ST and rotate all of them every 5000kms. Get a wheel alignment also mate.

                    Cheers,
Agreed. If that's what you want, then go for it. Some of those sharp rocks or tree roots may have caused the sidewall damage. I have 5 tyres the same & rotate all of them every 10,000k service.

i say buy 5 Mickey T ATZ 4 ribs instead

Btw Oscar, you might want to clean out your brakes after your little swim yesterday. coming down Bells Line of Road there were a few small sparks from something burning around your brakes. I kept my eye on it, wasn't anything major and no smoke.

Simmo...the ST-Cs may be worth looking at as well....typically about $20 more per shoe than the ST but less likely to rip a lug under wheel spin.

Otherwise I have 5 Grandtreks (AKA balloons) with 39k on them I;ll give you a great deal on! Only 4 have plugs, patches and one those has a plug, 3 large patches as well as a tube :!: :P
