      • I had the new design mudflaps fitted several months ago. Still don't think they give you absolute protection from stone chips but an improvement from the original ones.
Toyota came to the party somewhat and I had the rear guard and bumper resprayed today (the dealer even sneaked in the damage my wife caused when she backed into a post, under warranty.
They wouldn't respray the stone chips on the rear doors or replace the sills, which was my main concern.
Being a GX, it didn't have steps which would have prevented that damage so I guess I'll have to get that done out of my own pocket at a later date. I've since fitted steel sliders so I should'nt have any further paint damage in that area.

        • Hi Dobbo,

If I were in your situation, I'd be arguing with "The Seller" the the vehicle is not & never was "Fit For The Purpose".

If the rear mudflaps were replaced & the damage to the rear was repaired at no cost to you due to poor mudflap design, why were the front mudflaps replaced but the damage not repaired?

The fact that the mudflaps were replaced & the damage to the rear was repaired, may be considered by "Fair Trading" to be an admission by "'The Seller" that the vehicle was not "Fit For The Purpose" when you purchased it.

In NSW, the "Seller" is responsible for goods which are not "Fit For The Purpose".

          • Just got back from the Cape last week after fitting my new Toyota Flaps. Very very happy with them. Not more mud up the side of the doors and on the side steps. Thankyou mackay Toyota!

            • Just had my car in today for the 'hesitation when accelerating fix' (see other thread) and mentioned about the mud flaps. After some investigation by the service department during the day, when I went to pick my car up they had a 3 page document (I presume a service bulletin) describing the problem of excessive stone chipping and the fixes available.

I couldn't get a good look at the document so can't help with the references etc, but was told something very interesting... Apparently there are two lengths of mud flaps available as replacements, I was asked which would I prefer I opted for the longest ones they provide and will be waiting a few weeks for them to come in. In the meantime the dealer is also going through the process needed to sort out a re-spray at the same time so watch this space....

              • Interesting indeed, my dealer said nothing about different sizes. Apparently three of my four flaps have arrived, still waiting for the last one so they can change them out. Will update this thread when they are done with the length. BTW did you know they come pre-painted in the right colour?

I assume you are talking about the mud flaps? Mine are just black plastic not colour coded, I see from your sig yours is also a GXL White, which part of your mud flaps are coloured?

                  • There's a small part of the rear mud flap that is supposed to match the colour of your rear bumper, it's where the flaps connect to the bottom of the side of the bumper. When I asked my dealer about this they said that they come prepainted on that section. I have not had them fitted yet so I will wait and see but I will definately be pointing it out prior to them fitting them.

                    • Ah yes I see now. I had assumed it was part of the bumper. I have asked for them to repair any damaged to the bumper on mine so will see what comes of that.

                      Thanks

                      • I had my new Toyota mud flaps fitted last week. They are twice as long as the originals and appear to be a little wider. They were fitted free of charge under warranty. The rear mudflaps are colour coded to the body paint work for the small triangular section at he bottom. The front ones should prevent road junk from splashing up onto the side step also. These should be a marked impovement on the old ones, especially towing the van. The rear ones are quite flexible low down, so I think they may be OK in the rough stuff.
I only found out about this problem from this forum, thank you everyone to your contributions.
I would suggest that everyone keep the pressure on your Toyota dealer to get these replaced. They are available but I do not think Toyata is making it common knowledge. I will give some more feed back when we return from Lake Eyre.

                            • I have now installed my SR5 mudflaps over the originals....looks and works well although may get some longer factory ones once there in stock but in the meantime these will protect my new bumper thats about to be replaced by insurance.
