  • Yep the stock figure of 132 Kw is at engine - not 4 wheels.

    • Assuming a 40% loss through the drive line, your engine is probably putting out around 200KW at the flywheel now. Not a bad increase from 132KW

      • Hi Glen,

Very similar results to mine, with a URD 7 psi pulley my Prado produced 130.9 kw @ 4700 rpm then the belt started to slip.
Some alternator adjustment fixed that issue.

The big improvement I reckon though is the torque, 575 nm @ 2600 rpm is a huge improvement on the 303 nm @ 3600 rpm, 270 nm more at 1000 rpm less.... great for 4 wheeling.
The torque improvment is why I believe fuel consumption doesn't suffer as one would expect because your usually in a higher gear running at a lower rpm.

        Congrats on a great install.

Yes the torque change is the most amazing, and would explain why this thing can take off so aggressively. The figure seems too high though - perhaps it's a glitch such such as the TC not being locked up at the beginning of the run. I'll ask them for torque charts and see.

                • haha keep in mind this build up has occurred slowly over a few years now.. if I had everything in one go I would have become bored! The slow progression keeps it interesting. Keep looking after your rig and it'll provide you with plenty fun in future

                  • Yours is pretty much how I want mine eventually.

                    Just a few questions...
Did you find the 4.88 were needed or more that you just preferred/wanted them?
Was the body lift much of a hassle?
Did you do most of the mods yourself or get a mechanic to do most of it?

                    • Fantastic.

                      Any restrictions with the Snorkel?

Did you get to do some Dyno run's with and without it?

If I recall correctly I had the bodylift and 33's for a short time before the 4.88 ratios. The significant change was poor braking ability, which was fixed with a full brake rebuild and adjustment. Of course 33's affected performance, but the joys of the height distracted from worrying about that. I guess I'd say the 4.88's were a preference - to keep the torque up and the low range speeds down. Add to that, I knew I needed a rear locker for what I wanted to do, so decided to go "all out" - with diff rebuilds and solid pinion spacers. So again, a preference, not requirement.

I'd say the body lift was the biggest modification I've undertaken, and it wouldn't have been as successful or engineered without access to a good welder. Body lifts can be done "on the cheap", but they shouldn't be.

Hmm I started out letting the pros do the work (ARB suspension, bar, snorkel) but slowly took over pretty much everything. I performed the bodylift alone with assistance only for welding. All mechanicals and mods since then have been by myself except for cases where special skills or equipment were required (ie, chassis welding, pressing of ball joints or bearings, exhaust bending, diff internals). I now avoid mechanics for 364 days a year. 4wding is an expensive hobby - if you don't learn how to work on your car you'd better be incredibly rich!

Sorry we didn't perform any comparisons in regards to the intake. I'll never run without a snorkel so testing it without never crossed my mind. The snorkel tip was removed (due to clearance) and I had a unifilter installed.

The most obvious restriction on the dyno day was my new exhaust - it's a 2.5" pipe with cat and single muffler. It's restrictiveness was very obvious to the tuner, and definitely prevented higher Kw figures. My preference for torque, low noise, legalities and passing emissions, means I can't open it too much. I'm certain if it was opened up more the Kw would be over 130.

BTW - the tuner himself used to have his own supercharged 3.4L 90 series, and reached around 170 Kw with a smaller pulley and; I think; gas injection.

Regarding the torque curve - I've seen the charts today and it's very flat - staying above 500 Nm well into the 3,000 RPM range, and there's no signs of torque converter influence (it was locked).

                            • Another question mate. Do you think an exhaust setup is worth it on a N/A engine?

                              • Aftermarket extractors are nice as they slightly improve the weak spot at 2,750 RPM (?) - but if money is tight I'd recommend spending money elsewhere. The rest of the exhaust is definitely not worth touching with NA.

Even with a supercharger the stock pipe and mufflers are perfectly fine - as long as the variable pressure valve from the large muffler is removed (and replace extractors).
