I need to get rid of the seam also and considered just belting it over with a large adjusting tool but obviously cut/weld is a better solution. I just don't want to strip out the interior and wiring. Does mig get that hot inside?
Also who did it for you - I'm in Sydney also.

Lastly, have you fitted a front diff drop?

    cheers

That particular part of the car has two layers of steel: outside and inner, separated by a cavity. So what you do to the outer layer may not affect the inside layer. However, I didn't do the welding, I don't know exactly what they did... I just gave them the car for a day.

Many panel shops could do this work, but I went to MMVR Customs in Windsor because they seemed to do advanced panel/interior customisations of show room quality. If you're willing to spend the money, I'm sure they could fit 35" tyres, if not even 38's!! IE - they can strip back the interior, relocate foot wells and pedals, and relocate computers, etc - crazy work!! In order to keep within budget, I performed all the wheel arch and mud flap work myself. http://www.mmvrcustoms.com/

Yes, I have a front diff drop installed, on page 14. http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post337790

These are not suitable for later model ABS equipped Prados where the speedo signal is supplied by the ABS sensors. You need to splice into the existing wiring to install a speedo recalibrator on your Kakadu.

Hmm, after reading those links it seems rather complicated. I'll check the speedo with a GPS to see how much it is out before going down this route.

I changed to 265/75 and now my speedo is almost exactly right.

                      • Whilst searching for the cause of very excessive noises in the front I came across a few issues...

The tie rods ball joints were worn, especially on the passenger side. They were originals and the seals were broken, so I'm not surprised or worried about having to replace them. New ones are seen below:

                        • This video shows how much movement it's allowing:

I contacted the supplier in USA, who contacted the manufacturer, SPC. Their response was that bushes are maintenance components, and they offer newer heavier duty ones at a cost of $20 a set; "SpecRide" they are now called.

                            • Hi Glen,

10 months, thats a joke! Probably installed by an apprentice that pressed them in by the inner race, or a cheap nasty chinese bearing. Can you see the brand on the bearing?

Also poor form from SPC. Looks like a dog of a job without a press!

I see you use Cable Ties to hold your caliper up. You seem to do a lot of work on your car yourself, sacrifice a coat hanger and cut two lengths and make two 'S' shapes with more of a curve on the tail ends with the two pieces. Put one end through one of the bolt holes of the caliper bracket and hook the other over the Spring or UCA. I used the same two I made for years when I was a Tech and still using them to this day. Saves wasting cable ties!

Either way though, 10 months is pretty poor show considering the OEM ones lasted +10 years.
