  • A/C Cabin Filter Location?

Hello, I wanted to see if our Prados had an in-cabin filter. Because when I turn on the A/C it smells moldy, like wet carpet. So I wanted to see if it had one, and if it did where is it located to replace or clean...

    Morning... don't you have a 120? You've posted in the 90 section.
Maybe PM a mod to move the thread and you should get an answer.
On a 90 it's tucked up behind the glove box. Might be similar in a 120.
    Cheers, Leon

On a 120 it is behind a glove box but I didn't think that the 90 series had a cabin filter.

For the 120 series have a look at:
      Air Conditioning/cabin air filter

No, I have a 90 Series. I know there is some duct underneath the glove compartment, anyone know exactly where it is or if we even have on our rig.

If there isnt where would the moldy wet carpet smell be coming from?????

        Cheers

95 prado series do not have a filter - a I have asked if any one modified their air-intake cabin system. Nobody did

Might be the smell of bacteria build up on the A/C condenser. Best way to prevent that is turn off the A/C a few minutes before you turn off the vehcile to allow the condenser to dry out. If this has already occured then you can by an aerosol product (I know there is one from Wynns called Airco Fresh but there would be others as well) which kill off the bacteria. Costs about AU$45 for a can or there is also a service that the local Toyota Dealership has offered that costs about AU$95 to do the same trick.

Isn't there a filter in the big, white, circular plastic box behind the glovebox... :?
I'm sure I've seen something there... but I've never been able to work out how to get to it.
Maybe that's why... cause you're not supposed too

Every time I turn my AC on I get the dusty smell of the last dirt track I drove... Only lasts about 5 mins and then it's totally gone.
              Cheers, Leon

                  Re: A/C Cabin Filter Location?

My hilux use to do the same thing, its the evaporator getting wet then the you drive through dust and it sticks to it, myn use to smell like wet carpet as well, as mentioned below/above turn the air off 5 mins before you get home and let it dry out, I use to even flick the switch over to fresh to allow it to suck the hot air in through the evap to help dry it out quicker I also only run the air fresh/recirculate on recirc when driving in dusty conditions with air on to stop it sucking dust down into the evap, I dont do any of the above when driving city traffic except run the air on recirc, no point trying to cool down 40c air when it can recirc the cooler air already in cabin so as not to make the aircon work so hard, I actually pulled the airbox out of my hilux and cleaned it all down as I couldnt stand the smell you are right only last for 5 mins but still doesnt smell to good, to do this requires the dissconection of the aircon pipe and a degas etc, I was lucky and had access to gas etc so didnt cost me anything, i have learnt with the lux so havnt had this isse with the prado. regards Steve

Hi Mefestofel. I think you are right. I took out my glovebox after reading a thread on this topic and my KZJ95R doesn't have a filter - or if it does, it is pretty well disguised. Cheers, Derb.

                      Derb,

Here is the instruction for installation of cabin filter for Toyota Hilux - but this might work for Prado - http://depositfiles.com/ru/files/evu0i5d5w
