  • Darren's GXL TD 150

Owned her for several weeks now... Unfortunately a work trip overseas has delayed any serious play trips to date. Photos so far...

Straight to the tyre shop with 36km on the clock...

that looks really tidy mate well done. Bunnings DIY rubber mat looks very neat aswell!

    Few questions -

Is it hard to remove the roof rack? and is it steel or alloy? im looking at getting a roof rack that is easy to remove and is fairly light.

Can you fit the rear tyre cover back on?

Sorry, The wife spat the dummy over some internet security issues...
Apparently there are some clear landmarks that required removal!

            Thanks,
Roof rack weighs 17kgs. It's steel. I know it's a bit chunky but i wanted something strong because I'm looking at making custom hi-lift and shovel holder.
I get in on and off myself without too much of a problem, but it does take a while to do the mounting system (it's currently universal)
I might look at making mounting for points to stay on the rails so all i have to do is tighten or remove 4 ny-loc nuts.

Rear tyre cove can go back on without an issue, but i prefer the look without. The cover looked like a giant marsh mellow stuck on the back to me (some colors do look better)

Havent seen many without a rear tyre cover on and I think that was the only thing putting me off the silver, looks great without the cover on. Helps to break it up a bit.

I think the roof rack really suits aswell in the black.

I notice with the rear tyre off there is no plastic guard to stop the tyre from rubbing - any issues there?

No, there is probably 12mm clearance between the tyre and any paint work. No signs of any rubbing after a 120km offroad trip over the weekend...

Installed some "The Wetseat" seat covers today. Pretty happy with them. A few more hock and loop tabs will make them fit even better. A work out getting them on.

Just wondering, you reckon you could fit a piece of PVC pipe next to the roof rack?

Am thinking of this set up for mine but think I might have to go the smaller basket so I can accomodate a PVC pipe for the rods.

I could fit a rod holder if i de-centred the basket. You would have three options in my opinion:

                        - De-center the roof rack to allow access to the Rola sportz bars.
                        - Install the PVC pipe directly to the side of the basket. This basket is very strong and I’m sure you could come up with a mounting system. I'm looking to mount a hi-lift to it.
                        - Install the Toyota OEM roof bars that have overhang like the traditional roof bars.

                        Hope this helps!

I also have Wet Seat covers fitted on my 150 GXL and they have a cut out on the side of the seat back to allow deployment of the side air bags. I don't see the same cut out on yours.

OK, so i've been a bit slack at keeping this up to date... But the project continues!

Fitted Narva 225 spot light kit... Upgraded them to HID within a week with the ebay kit. Awesome mod and better than buying the lights themselves!
Made a homemand draw system. Spent best part of a weekend on them and the wife did the carpeting. All up spent $380 (inc buying the staple gun) plus the fridge slide. I have plans to fill in the sides on hinges to make more sealed storage. No more nails and a set square is your friend!
Other little bits including rear power, new 150 milford cargo barrier, shovel holder etc...

Installed suspension lift today... Awesome! Love it! Now it's a 4x4!!! (Can you tell i'm pleased with it???)
Bilstein/Lovells (HD Fr / MD R) 810mm F and 820mm R from the bottom of rim to the arch!

Off to the pinnacles for the weekend and doing the coast run down to Wedge Island and Lancelin on the way back... Looking forward to testing it out!

                              Hey Darren,

Having been on your trip, how would you rate your new setup? Can you tell me how much you paid for the suspension setup? Also, which rola racks do you have there, are you happy with them and how much did they set you back?

                              Cheers and nice looking rig,

                              Mike
