Re: Reverse Camera Modifications - for ease of use

could anyone of you guys suggest which wires carry the video signal - I want to use a sat nav unit with AV input instead of the tiny monitor supplied as standard.

      Re: Anytime Reverse Camera Mod

Okay now this is a great read and very well illustrated, but it's got me thinking about the camera at the front of the kakadus. I've seen a thread where someone bought a separate reverse camera and screen and mounted the cam at the front but still had to use the screen. I'm thinking if maybe ya put a 3 position switch in you could have normal/rear/front. Save me getting out of the car to look over the crest of those hills... Maybe even a Toyota reverse camera modified to fit up the front somewhere. Any thoughts from the superior minds out there?

Derek, do you have any photos on how to rout the new loom and switch to the switch panel and how you remove the panel in order to insert the switch into the blank spot?

          Cheers, Sam.

Has anyone modified the camera so that you can see the tow bar when hooking up the trailer?.

Hi guys great detail in this thread well done. I have the same question as Ages has anyone out there done the mod and wired a camera to the front of the vehicle (same as Kakadu) and use the standard monitor.

                Rob,

Ive installed a forward facing (underside) camera with three way switch. Still having 'technical' issues with the picture but remind me to show you on the weekend.
                Cheers

Thats right downunder, the picture rolls and cuts in and out - not sure if its an impedance/resistance issue, or that the camera is not PAL (an old hand-me-down from my brother in law) or I have some interference coming in though the video line.
                    Cheers

i had mine done recently. unfortunately i could not take photos as the day was getting darker and the guy doing it had one eye on time and other on the job

i have it done as per original thread here with a diode and with a switch so can be on anytime or off ready for when reverse is selected but i ended up with one issue. the best way i can describe it is that the screen is split with a 1cm wide dark horizontal line about 2cm from top and above that is a 1cm wide section of the rear view BUT this section is actually the bottom part of the view. it should be down the bottom of the screen. its as if its like a tv used to roll horizontally and has paused. the guy who fitted it said it was an issue with my gps unit itself. i am not so sure as every screen on the gps/radio etc is perfect, except when thru the camera

anyone have any ideas that understands how these things work??

i also fitted the camera, a round one, in the centre of the bumper above the towbar

any techs out there with any info or ideas on why this is happening?? i havent checked with a different camera as i dont have one handy to do that unless someone nearby wants to let me disconnect theirs and connect into mine

OK I just found the car camera box. it says its a COLOR CMOS/CCD CAMERA, Video: PAL

so is this my problem? does it have to be a NTSC??

What headunit have you got? Normally, the screens are auto adjusting to the PAL or NTSC system. Or maybe there is a menu option to switch. However, this setting normally causes the display to squish the image or not, a bit like setting 16:9 letterbox or fullscreen as NTSC has fewer lines than PAL.

its the standard grande one for sept (?) 2005

there are no menu items to change for this model

so is it worth me making the installer to come back with a ntsc model?

Dunno, will have to google more.
If the installer has an NTSC camera and is able to quickly plug it in, then it is worth a shot to rule the PAL/NTSC issue out.
Also plug in another PAL camera just to make sure that the specs on the box isn't telling furphies.
