            • 1 Recovery point down, one to go. The first one took a good couple of hours, mostly due to trying to recover the ARB nut from the chassis. Once I finally was able to get it out, I could see why, there's nothing straight about it. Unlike Hollywood on pg22 I was unable to pass the bolt forward through the front (tiny) hole in the chassis.
I ended up retrieving it by passing the bolt rearward until the tail appeared at the hole in the picture, then using fingers and pliers, pulling the tail forward through the hole.

              Nothing straight about this:

Also had to trim off some of the ARB wing which hit the recovery point after installation.

The ARB Bolts are quite a bit shorter than the ones which came with the recovery points. Did someone here mention the Roadsafe points are rated high enough for mounting recovery points and a bull bar to the chassis? Bolts are stamped with YFS 12.9

Had some luck with the 2nd (passenger) recovery point. The ARB retaining nut stayed in place when I unscrewed the ARB rear bolt. Quickly put the recovery point in place and screwed the Roadsafe bolt into the ARB nut. It seemed to capture fine!

              • Just fitted the red Outback Ideas recovery points to my 2012 diesel Altitude. Don't have a bullbar, only the OEM nudge bar. TJM Nailsworth supplied them .. $150. Decided to buy locally rather than online in case there were any issues. Thanks to all the posts I had a pretty good idea how to fit them but did come across some issues that I couldn't find mentioned anywhere.

So I'd thought I'd post my experience in case anybody else needs some info.

The supplied bolt that goes at the top of the recovery point would not fit in the hole in the chassis. It's a 12mm bolt that even with filing the hole I couldn't get in. So I drilled hole out a bit bigger with a 12.5mm bit and had no problem.

The points don't come with the lower bolts. Asked TJM and they said just use the captive bolt. Guess what, there isn't one. After some trial and error and having to try 3 places to get the right size, the size you need is a M12 x 1.25 x 35 bolt. This is the fine pitch bolt needed to fit in the threaded hole in the chassis rail. The pitch of the bolts supplied with the recovery points are much coarser.

Went to local CMI Toyota dealer and they looked up their parts list but the bolt/thread pitch is not listed anywhere even though it's shown on the drawings. Running around finding the right bolt took longer than fitting the points. Hopes this helps others.

The trick I picked up from reading the threads was to install the lower bolt with the recovery point on, put the upper bolt through the point and hole in rail and then tighten the lower bolt so that the recovery point doesn't move whilst you line up and put the top bolt in permanently. To gain easier access, I just turned the front tyres out on the side that I was installing. Was surprised how easy you could thread the top bolt into the captive nut. All in all, took me 20 mins per side (and 3 hours to find the right size lower bolt). Torqued the bolts up to 80Nm. Pushed wire back through small hole in chassis rail, as suggested by TJM, just in case you ever want to take the recovery points off.
                Hope this helps others.

                • I just refitted mine, after delaying it for 2 years.
Undid the bull bar supports, removed the ARB nut and tail so there was no rattling.

Fed the new nut and wing thought the rectangle hole in the chassis,
Fitted the points up, used the 12.9 HT bolts I had bought ages ago.

All in all took 1 hour including jacking, removing tyres, and all put back together.
Now I can feel a bit better if I ever need to use the winch
                  Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado
