Fuel economy improved quite a bit after break in but is getting worse now due to higher traffic conditions and stop and go traffic. Averaging high 12's now, almost 13!!
Hey guys,
Just wondering how far people have driven after the 'cruising range' says 0km? ie Do we know approx how many liters are left in the tank before it is actually empty?
ps Have a 2009 Kakadu D4D with 145,000kms on the clock and average around 9.8-10.2 city driving, have not done a country/highway trip yet so will update fuel mileage in next few weeks when i have (only had car for just over 1 month)

According to the manual the fuel light comes on with 22 litres left at and average of 11ltrs per 100kms would give you about 200kms from the fuel light but don't think l would push it that far but at least it gives you a bit of a guide.
I think anything around 10-11 is excellent for a 2.5t vehicle unless you are sitting on the open highway where you might hope for 9-10, although I'm always towing on the highway so 14 is a good number. It's why I use my wife's 1.4l Turbo Octavia around town, goes like stink and averages 6-7l/100 around town and 5 on the highway.

I have managed 8.7 to 8.9 with no load and only the driver on trips on the Hume Hwy but generally it's 9 to 10 on the open road and 11-12.5 around town. That's why I drive my old 2.8D Ute around town where I always get low 8's.
I did a test same trip twice with 60% hwy and 40% winding roads with hills . The first time i tried to get the best economy with 2 adults + 2 kids bike on the roof the back fully loaded to the roof and a suzuki JR 70 attached to the tow bar fuel economy and returned 12.3 per hundred going from the pump figures and the second time i did the same test (same set up) i gave it heaps and returned a figure of 11.49.
