  • 10,116Km. Computer reads 8.4L, actual 8.6L/100Km Naked 2014 + Tow bar

    Comment

    • Been averaging around 10L/100 up to 11L and down to 9.7L 2012 Altitude naked etc (78000 on the clock) Only mod's done before purchase were lift kit, heavy duty towing suspension and instead of Geolander tyres, he upsized to BF Goodrich AT's with a slightly larger rolling diameter which from what I get has corrected the speed to be more accurate. About to get a K&N air filter installed and have thought about the upgraded exhaust.

10.5 computer (11.2 actual) Adelaide Hills to Mawson Lakes and back, 70km round trip, 8km of 7 degree gradient doesn't help that much! Would be much lower if it wasn't for that hill!

        • Avg 8.7 - 8.9 /100L Melb city driving. 2013 VX 150 Facelift. 7.6/100L best so far on a drive to Benalla. Bullbar & snorkel. More than pleased with the upgrade from the petrol 120.
2013 MY14 VX Prado TD, Bullbar, Airtec Snorkel, Uniden UH8080NB, Tyredog TPMS 1400AX, ScangaugeII, Interior LEDs, Creed 9' LED Spotties.

          • The car says 11.9 with city and some towing. I have 70 profile tyres and only get 1050km out of a full tank with only around 15 litres remaining. Not very good.

            • The difference in economy figures doesn't make sense. I get around 11l/100km in the city, love to know how you guys are getting 8, that's a 30% difference. I run tyres at 40 and drive pretty steady, something doesn't add up.

              • I get around 11.5 with 80% round town and 20% highway. 2009 auto, lift and rhino pioneer platform.

                • So my brand new 2014 GLX Prado (Auto) which is completely stock with no bar etc or anything (Yet!) is nearly empty after 1 full tank of fuel from delivery. The gauge says it has 98km til empty. So I worked out the fuel consumption based upon remaining km til empty from the ODO (After considering the 7 km already on the clock when bought) and came up with the figure of 11.87ltrs per 100 km. I will post the exact consumption tomorrow afternoon when I fill up and get the exact km travelled since new against the exact fuel used after filling up.

You get 8 on the highway, not in town. Rest the average when you settle on cruise and it will hover around 7.5 until a hill or some other interruption, the average over time in those conditions is 8 to 8.5.

I'm getting an ave 8.8 city driving and have so for the last four months since upgrading to the 150. Use BP diesel only and drive within the Eco "range" from the multi function display.

I think its the trip computer versus real life figures difference. I was able to achieve mid 8's on the trip computer for a bit (mostly good highway runs work and back). I generally average 9-9.4.

But when you do the actual maths on km's travelled against actual fuel pumped back in, it works out nearly 1 l/100km difference.

The main reason mine sits around the 9.4 mark is from idling at shopping centres waiting for the Mrs (so we dont have to take both rugrats in / out of the car!)

Now we are hitting summer, I expect to see my "trip computer avg" creep up with air con use.

                        • All my figures are based on actual litres in the tank and kms traveled, taking into account ODO accuracy. I find the trip computer can be up to 15-20% out, always overly optimistic and never accurate.

If the Prado actually achieved 8.5l/100km on the city cycle it would probably be one of the only cars that meets its advertised consumption figures.

For more realistic figures look at some of the real world test results eg.
                          Fuel consumption diesel, listed: 8.5 l/100km tested: 12.1 l/100km
                          Fuel consumption petrol, listed: 11.5 l/100km tested: 13.4 l/100km

Ultimately for this size and type of vehicle anything around 10-11l/100km in real world driving is going to be pretty good. Where the diesel shines and the reason we bought ours is for touring and towing. Getting 13-16l/100km towing and fully loaded with crap on the roof is what makes it such a good car, especially with the 150l fuel tank.

                          • Still haven't had to refuel mine yet after my full tank from brand new... Fuel light hasn't even come on yet. But when I do I will post my "real" fuel consumption figures based on actual mathematics.

                            • Anyone using the ODO is going to be wrong unless you have calibrated it against at least a GPS distance including elevation over reasonable distance.

Let's not no go into the fact that how do you know your tank is full by just relying on the auto shutoff on the bowser.

Pick a method and use it as a comparison for your own usage one trip to the next. Comparing with others is like comparing dyno sheets. Useless.

Dont forget tyre wear, tyre profile etc.

It is far from useless if you find a person with a similar setup. If you were getting pretty shitty fuel economy compared to other people with a similar setup then it may be the difference between getting the issue diagnosed sooner rather than later.
